anyone ever eat deer liver? i had never heard of anyone eating it until i watched this youtube video where this guy was gutting his deer. he was all excited about the liver, saying it was the best part of the deer!

i imagine it might be pretty similar to calve's liver, but i'd just never heard of anyone eating it.

The elk around up here in Montana have a lot of flukes in them.  Not sure about the deer.  I won't touch liver anyway, but I suppose you could eat it.  Now, I do enjoy a good elk heart, sliced thin and fried.  That is some good eating in camp the day you shoot your elk! Big%20Smile

Some love it others hate it. The only time I like it is when my cousin makes it fresh the day of kill. Italian Style, fried with olive oil, lots of garlic, caramelized onions, and rosemary. I remember many a night at home when I was younger battling with my mom to eat it, blah!!

We have been advised not to eat deer liver, or very sparingly in our area of Ontario.  Supposed to collect heavy metals such as cadmium - although I suspect the metals would probably taste better than the liver itself!

If you are going to try it might be an idea to check with the wildlife authorities in the area first.

We're dealing with CWD here in WV and are being advised not to eat any of the organs(any that are normally eaten Ed!) and not to cut through bone of any deer taken in the infected area. Otherwise,if you've not eaten fried deer liver,heart,and/or kidneys your throughing away some good wholesome food.

Over here most hunters eat the Liver and it is best cooked when it is fresh, if you soak it in a bit of milk it helps to take that bitter taste out. It's also best not to over cook it, or it is rubbery.
