I have a 3-year old Burris Signature 4-16x44 (electro-dot) that I compared with a new Nikon Monarch 6.5-20x44 and a Sightron SII 4-16x42. I took all three outside and looked at various objects from 50-100 yards under a full moonlit night. All of the scopes were at 6.5x and AO set at 75 yards. To my disbelief I was able to see a brighter and clearer picture with the Nikon. The Sightron was a close second with the Burris third. I really like this Burris scope and was wanting to buy two of the new (2005) Sig. Selects in 4-16x44 with the lighted reticle. I like the Selects cosmetic appearance as well as the improved features and was just waiting for an illuminated reticle in these scopes. Question is, has anyone compared the new selects with an older model or other scopes comparable to the two that I compared with? And, if so, are the selects improved optically over an older Signature like mine that is 3 y/o? Also, are the Black Diamonds and Euro Diamonds optically clearer and brighter than the Selects and why? From what I understand, the Sig. Select, BD, and Euros use the same glass and coatings with the Selects being, of course, a 1" tube. Thanks for any help.

I did the same comparison with
2 black diamonds Schmidt Bender a 4200 30mm 2.5-10x50 and the Nikon monarch gold 2.5-10x50 the nikon was the brightest and clearest at night the eye relief sucked on it .5" in any direction and you could not see anything durring the day the black diamonds and SB were every bit as good the 4200s glass is just not in thew same class as the nikon or BD or SB shon |

The optical system has stayed exactly the same for the Signature to the Signature Select line. The Black Diamond and Euro Diamond scopes use the same glass and coatings as well. |
