I put a Swarowski 3x10 with Warne permanent mounts on my Sako 85. Just mounted it and it took a lot of tighning, especially on the back mount to get the bottom tight enough to hold. This left quite a gap on the top of the mounts and especially on the back which is all the way forward to its widest postion. Is typical of these mounts on this type of rifle? It does not look normal to me - should I use a different mount?
Thanks for all the comments of scopes. I picked this scope, basically because it seemed to fit my eye the best.

They are Warne Part # 1SM and the package says SAKO Permanently attached 1" tube.
I would attach a picture if I knew how.

Not to be argumentative, but I'd never use those leupy rings on a Sako, ever.

Well, I used Leupold ring mounts on a .300 WM Sako and they worked very well for me.
Much better than the Opti-Locs I payed too much for, I'll tell you that much.
Anywho, you got the wrong rings on this scope tube, it appears, my friend.
Can't get your pics to download. Try to resend using attachments, if you would please.

Got 'em!
Looks like 30mm rings on a 1" tube to me, if those screws are tight.

Well,
The package says they are for 1" tubes....I guess they could have made a mistake.
I have called Warne and they are checking into it for me. And the screws are tight...probably too tight. I had to back them off a bit because the 3-10 adjustment know was starting to be difficult to turn.
I'll let you know what I find out.

You can check yourself with a pair of calipers.
30mm equals 1.18110 inches.

That is a very nice scope to ruin if you are not positive about what you are doing. If you over torque the screws it will absolutely ruin the scope. I would strongly recommend the services of a professional after looking at the picture that was submited.

Bluefin, is it possible that maybe when you disassembled the rings to mount the scope that you got the ring halves mixed up and reassembled the wrong mating halves of the rings together? Or, maybe you have the front ring on the rear receiver dovetail and vice-versa. Keep in mind that Sako ringmounts are designed to be installed only 1 way, because the front and rear tapered dovetails are of different width.

Thanks for the comments so far. I did put the mounts in the correct position. Warne is going to send me another set of mounts. Turns out....acording to the technician that there is a difference between the sako 75 and sako 85. Hopefully, this works out. I'll post when I get the new ones mounted.

Update.
Warne has researched the problems with the rings for my sako 85. They have been reengineered and and I just put them on....perfect fit now. I was concerned that the first rings damaged the scope, but it seems OK. I will no more when I get a chance to shoot the rifle. Just wanted to let everyone know that contrairy to the spec sheets, the sako 75 rings Do Not work on the sako 85. Warne told me that the believe the first sako 85's were the same as the sako 75's and that sako has made a change in the scope mounts on the later rifles. There is a difference and Warne has made the adjustments. Warne was very good to work with, it just took awhile.

Bluefin,
I don't know what happened here or what Warne told you, but I just measured the receiver grooves of a Sako 75 and compared it to a current vintage Sako 85 this weekend, and the grooves are dimensionally identical between the two rifles. I guess maybe it's possible Sako changed the groove dimensions on the 85 just in the past few months, but I don't see what the advantage would be in doing that. I suspect you must have received some faulty Warne rings.
