Hello,
Ok I guess I'm stupid. I have a Nightforce 5.5. X 22 and trying to sight it in. And never having a scope like this one.
When taking the caps off, there isn't the little flat screw there( the one you can use a dime on). How do I sight/adjust the scope in??
Sighting it in, I was on target at 100 yards but my elevation was at 500 yards and windage was way off.
I'm sorry if this has been asked before but couldn't find it in the search.
Dewayne.
oh yeah a rookie I'm guessing.

Wow I dream of the day I get to have a Nightforce 5.5-22. Anyway some scopes have EXPOSED KNOBS and some scopes have REMOVABLE CAPS COVERING THE ADJUSTMENT SCREW. The way your knobs work is that each click moves the point that the scope cross hairs look at by 1/4 of one inch at 100 yds. To sight in you move the Exposed knobs --- click click click right or left and up or down until the cross hair corresponds to where the bullet actually strikes at 100 yds. I usually start off at about 15 to 25 yds to roughly get the adjustment close then move back to 100. Once the scope is properly adjusted you unscrew the hex screw pull the marked Exposed knob up and off and turn it to the ZERO setting and push it back onto the scope and tighten the hex screw. Now you have the rifle Zeroed at 100 yds. Your Exposed Knobs are marked in minute of angle and one moa is about one inch at one hundred yards or two inches at two hundred yards or three inches at 300 .... or 10 inches at 1000 yds. So since we are talking about an angle while the 1/4moa is 1/4 inch at 100 what happens at 200 is that 1moa at 200 is 2 inches so 1/4 of 2 inches is 1/2 of an inch or one click will move the scope 1/2 inch at 200 yds and when you get to 300 yds one moa is 3 inches so 1/4 of 3 inches is .75 inch and each click at 300 yds moves the sight .75 or 3/4 of one inch....... at 1000 yds one moa is 10 inches and 1/4 of 10 inches is 2.5 inches so one click at 1000 yds will move the scope 2.5 inches. These types of scopes are used by professional snipers because you can dial in correction for windage and elevation - correcting for the drop caused by the trajectory of the bullet. For example if I sight in at 100 yds and know that two hundred yards is 1.25moa or 5clicks up I turn the knob and my crosshair is now correct for 200 yds. If I know the wind is blowing from the right to left 10mph I can dial in correction to the right to compensate for that (this can be a complicated thing to estimate but the kenton knobs help.) http://www.biggameinfo.com/BalCalc.aspx balistic calculator http://www.kentonindustries.com/ balistic compensated knobs --- you will like these.

you can reset them to zero with the set screws and an allen wrench, but this doesn' t change-- they are external , there is no dust cover-- except on the bench nf. but neither one use a coin. somewhat confused by the post because the instruction book that goes with the scope is about as clear as the subject can be made and the post suggests a "tongue in cheek" question.

Thanks. I don't have the instruction book. A buddy of mine put the scope on the rifle and I haven't gotten it back yet. "tongue in cheek" question: I blame that on to much Miller Lite |

oh, ok-- bore sight then in the usual manner, shoot, for the distance zero you want by simply turning the knobs in the direction arrow on the saddle, counterclockwise to raise poi, calibrating the knob to zero at this range, use a small allen wrench in the screws at the top, just loosen until the knob "pops" up a little, turn to zero marking, then press down on the top and relock the allen set screws.

.
I can remember as a child I had a scoped 30-06 and I couldnt get the scope to adjust no matter how much I turned the knobs either way......at about age 8 I figured out those things I was truning were the scope caps and that they could be taken off revealing the actual adjustment coin slot type mechanism- so I've been there but its been a while.

You just made my day. That is some funny stuff. Got to go to the range now, but prolly won't shoot well considering how hard I'll be laughing.

It's NOT you, it's the darn scope! I should know, I have 3 and they're all junk! HOWEVER, being that you're a newbie and seem like such as NICE guy I'll be happy to help you out and swap even for a Bushnell Elite 4200, and I'll even send you the instructions!Hell, I'll even mount it, sight it and give you some ammo.
In all seriousness, you've got some nice glass there, get the book and it'll all make sense. If you've lost it let me know and I'll copy any pages you need....
