I am planning on purchasing a Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10x44 to put on my Remington 700 LSS 280 50th Anniversary I have yet to put a scope on or shoot. I am planning on getting a silver or stainless scope. From looking at pictures and reading descriptions, the scope is often listed as either "stainless" "stainless silver" or just "silver." In some of the pictures the scope looks a dull gray and in others a shiny silver. Does anyone know if there are two variations in color, a stainless and a silver, or just one that looks different in different photos. Also, does anyone know bases and rings that would match this scope in color. Do leupold silver rings match it? Leupold scopes look to be a different silver color so I wasn't sure if they would match it.
Any recommendations for another scope? I had thought about a VXII in 4-12x50 or possibly a Nikon Monarch or Burris Fullfield II, but I'm fairly set on the silver Conquest.

Welcome to Optics Talk.
Leupold silver rings and the Conquest match VERY well. I had this combo on a Sako M75.
Conquest is a terrific choice! I had the same scope your considering.

leupold rings do not match the 700 LSS i have. i held them side by side and they are not the same shade of silver. Leupold scopes are not even close to the same color as the rifle. My gun has a black laminate stock so i was planning on putting a matte scope and rings on it, when i decide what scope to buy. |

Take the rifle to the store so you can see the mounts and the scope with the rifle before you purchase anything. That Conquest is a good one in matte or silver!

That's what I was afraid of. From pictures it looks like the leupold is a much lighter, shinier silver than the stainless barrel. I'm not big on silver scopes, but with the black laminate stock and stainless barrel I wasn't sure how a matte scope would look on it. I like the looks of the conquest b/c it has black too which seems like it would match the rifle well. So the leupold rings are definitely a no go for the LSS then, at least for matching color? Did you by chance find any silver bases that did match? I really appreciate the help.

I have a 700 LSS in 270 WSM with the Conquest 3.5-10,44. I have the black laminate stock and I used the matte scope, rings and bases. I think it looks nice.

I recently purchased a Zeiss Conquest 4.5 x 14 x 50 MC with Z-1000 reticle. This scope is amazing, crystal clear and bright! The reticle is an incredible tool for my Remy 700 XCR LRT in .308.
I did have a slight problem initially when I went to zero it, but Zeiss took it back and sent me a new one immediately. I had a new scope on my rifle in 6 days total! That is what I call CUSTOMER SERVICE! If you have any questions about their products, why not just call their customer service in Virginia? Ask for Carol H. She is a pro all the way! |

Talley 1 piece rings, match the Zeiss silver scope perfect, I have a Kimber in Stainless and the same scope you are buying, the scope rings, scope and rifle all match perfect. Call Gary at Talley and ask him, he will fix you up the right way.

I have the same rifle, 700 LSS in 7mm, matte scope and had Leupold silver rings. I took them off and just installed silver Talley's. The color of the Talley's are a better color match IMHO. |

What ever color scope and hardware you pic, it'll all look good matched with the black (gray) laminate stock.
I'll try to post a pic tonight if I have time; hunting season starts in four days!! |

I appreciate everyone's advice. I went ahead and ordered the zeiss conquest 3.5-10x44 in stainless. If it doesn't match perfectly I suppose I can live with it, for now at least. I also ordered silver leupold rings because I would like the gun ready for a hunt in two weeks and have used leupold rings in the past. It looks like I will go ahead and also order silver talley rings and send the leupold's back if possible or just keep them for another rifle! I've heard good things about the talleys in the past. Once again I appreciate all of the input and am looking forward to the conquest coming in! Regardless of the color it should be a pretty sweet scope!

Do you have the black laminate stock LSS? The leupold bases and rings came in today and definintely do not match the color of the rifle very well. Not sure about how well they will match the scope b/c it hasn't come in yet. I'm sure they'd work all right but I'm just not 100% happy with them. What talley rings work well? Is it the stainless rings that you would recommend? I'm going to order some asap.

I had a look at a Conquest 1.8-5.5 today. It had better blending of the internal and external fields than either the Duralite or best Leupold but I was annoyed at it's reflection of light on the ocular lens. I'm surprised the Zeiss coatings don't suppress this stuff.
