i was crusing rugers page today and noticed that they are offering a couple of new chamberings starting this next month and was a little surprised in the choices in the hawkeye, 35 whelen and .264 win i dont mind seeing either of those offered but im wondering why they picked those two, i wouldnt mind having either, just because i would like to compare the hawkeye to my mkII. what do you guys think?

Ruger has always been one of those companies that isn't afraid to chamber some less popular rounds.  Take for instance the .257 Roberts and 7X57, both of which they've kept alive in their catalog offerings.

I've always liked the 35 Whelen,, good thumper , and not too terribly hard on the shoulder..

I've seen the new Rem CDL's for the Whelen for under $500 on alot of auction listings

35whelen is neat, but the .350rem mag will do all that the 35 whelen will with a shorter action. too bad the brass is a lot more than 30-06 brass

......................Ruger has some keee-ho-neeeees!!! I LIKE IT!...Excellent.....They are innovating in many areas, as well as bringing new chamberings to their Hawkeye line.

Browning still chambers the 358 Win. in their BLR`s as does Ruger in their Frontiers. The 35 Whelen and the 264`s have their following as well.

On competitor site, I see that the 338 RCM Hornady brass is $30 for 50.....The 338 Win. brass is $23 for 50 (Win. brass), a $7.00 difference...........Not really that big of a difference to worry about there, at only 14 cents per piece difference (14 cents x 50= $7.00).........If you can`t handle that, then you shouldn`t think about a new 338 RCM in the first place......Brass expense shouldn`t be an issue with the RCM`s.

I'd like to see them had a .416 based on their .375 case.  I know its more than likely in the works.

I don't see why they wouldn't make a production off it.  They have led on other cartridges.  Why not take the chance?

.416 rigby, 416wby, 416rem 416 dakota etc  plus the .416 market is a tiny piece of the pie compared to say the 300rcm.

you have the 300 WM, RUM, SAUM, WSM, Dakota, H&H, Wby, and they still came out with the 300 RCM.  Why get a new slice of pie with the 416?

i only know a hand full of people who own .416s and they dont usually take em out for whitetail if you know what i mean, really think about it, they would sell 1 .416jrs  to 100 .270's so you know where is your priority for making money?

You are very right about the sales.  But there are those people out there that would buy one just because it was different.  Plus, they now have a reputation to uphold of being daring and bring out new cartridges.

i wont argue that, i am one of those types myself, i just dont know how much of the market thinks as i do, all fashion and no function types. unless you are going to africa, or feel the need to pack some serious punch to alaska, i dont see joe blow in south carolina running out to buy one for his next new deer rifle, but i will agree that people out there would buy it because its new.
