This helicopter is a Robinson R-44 Raven II.  It has a 300hp piston engine.  Max gross takeoff weight is 2500lbs.  Max speed is 130 kts (150 mph depending on altitude).  Ceiling is 14,000 ft density altitude.  The hotter it is the slower you have to fly and you can't get as high.  You can see in the pictures we got to 9500 ft but the density altitude (the altitude that you helicotper acts like it is at) was closer to 11500.

We usually cruise at about 100 knots.  And stay 500 to 1000 ft above the ground.

Very nice pics, thanks for sharing Helo.
I have seen some very nice whitetail bucks in the lower valleys of the Glacier Park area. Montana is a beautiful state for game and scenery!

Not too far.  There is some decent whitetail in the country I was flying over in the lower elevations.  The higher has mulies and elk.  There is good whitetails a couple hours north around Lewistown and a couple hours east.  That is by car.  By helicopter, it is faster.

Ask anything you want, I don't mind.  A helicopter is maintenance intensive.  You have to stay on top of it.  The range varies.  You burn about 15 gph.  Full fuel is 49 gallons.  Give you about 3 hours time, and still have 20 minute reserve (FAA requirements).  The factory lists range at 345 nautical miles.

What a great deer/ elk scouting tool. I showed Preston (my son who is a firefighter in the Air Guard ) the pictures Thunbs%20Up sounds like a good way to fight a fire - fly over and drop water on it. One of my friends is a mechanic on a Chinook but he hates to fly.  We have a lot of Chinooks and Blackhawks fly in at Camp Dodge and when I was at the Air Guard Base we had all kinds of stuff come in including Marine One - two identical helicopters . The paint job on them is incredible.

I have spent a few hours in Helicopters, Airassault, and then also during some storm cleanup observations, and evaluations. I love the wop wops.
