I havent had a new scope in 15 years and I know that the quality of optics has changed drastically so I need some advice. I have had a simmons 3-10-44mag for all of these years without a single problem. I havent had to sight it in in 15 years. But its clearness and at low light I couldnt see very well. My buddies could still see deer in our food plots and I couldnt. They all own Bushnell. But I was thinking on maybe these 4 scopes.I would like a scope that is very clear and works well at dusk and dawn.
Simmons Aetec 4-14-44
Nikon prostaff 3-9-50
leupold vx1 3-9-50
Bushnell 3200 series in 3-9-50
Thanks

Yep, I agree with Doug.
Optically, the 4200 is easily right up there with the "over $500" scopes.

I would go with the Sightron Big Sky 4x16x42. I don't need to use a spotter when shooting paper at 200 yds because I can see my 30-06 bullet holes clearly.

Elite 4200 is the way to go. Another choice is the Nikon 3x9 Primos, 199.95 or Sightron SII 3x9 42mm at the same price. The Elite has a hydrophobic coating on the external lenses which beads off water giving it a slight edge to the others. But, optically all are about the same. Do not buy the Simmons, it is not the Simmons of old. Search for some of my recent posts on a recently purchased Simmons. Chicom crap.

i dont know, i think the 4200 is for its price is very easily up there with the $500 scopes, its every bit as good as the zeiss conquest, and its gotta be close enough to be worth a lot more, its close to ior and meopta as well which are twice the price.

Having all three, I would say the 4200 is not even in the same league as the IOR and my Meopta is also noticeably better and it is the Artemus 3000 not even the Meostar. Evening time is where you will really see the difference. I have used a couple of my IOR's in evening/night classes and they have worked wonderfully for that. |

I can definitely agree with that, I love both my 4200's. For a great value hunting scope it's impossible to beat. |

Should have been more clear. Yeah, the "over $500" thing is a little vague.
The sale 4200 for $250 is equal to a scope costing $500.
Conquest and VX 3 namely.
(Vague references, flippant comments and generalizations may work elsewhere, but it just don't cut it on this forum.)
