I think this is a prettygood review of the VX7, not overly done or overboard, just plain fair and I believe this is what you can expect from a leupold, an honest product.

Thanks for the feedback, SAKO75. Sounds like you got a good deal!
Would also like to hear your impressions of the Stiller Predator action you have it mounted on as well as details of the whole rifle (barrel make, chambering, stock, trigger, finish, how it shoots, etc.). In fact, I have a Predator barreled action on order right now as we speak. Edited by RifleDude - April/30/2008 at 19:29 |

The pop-up, integrated caps is one feature of the VX-7 that I would like to see on other scopes. I think it's a very nice, clever idea! |

Please excuse me----I know you are thrilled with your new scope.... but for ELEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS I would certainly EXPECT it to be brighter than a $450 scope!!! I'm glad you like it.
Tomorrow if Simmons comes out with a $900 scope, I will be equally unmoved.
I don't get it. Twenty years ago a $500 Swarovski would have blown that Leupold away.
(Don't mind me. I am the resident dinosaur who still likes Weavers! but I have LOOKED through some Swarovski's over the years.....)

--Ed Ed- I know i know, its a leupold (THEY SUCK RIGHT)so it cant be as good not matter what... i was wondering when I would get this reply i have a swaro PH 2.5-10x42 and it doesnt do anything better than this scope... have you compared the two? It has less eye relief, a smaller eybox, and more critical eye relief on high powers. it also has 1 1st focal plane reticle.. its a great scope that listed for 1400$ as well... It really isnt any better.. if it is i cant tell but hey i compared them for my eyes Edited by SAKO75 - April/30/2008 at 20:19 |

well i dont anticipate dialing much as its a 308 win and 300-400 yards is my limit... i guess i wont lose them though huh? anyway, sometimes innovation is initially laughed at... like the 1.7-10 swaro Z6...really whats the difference between that and 2.5-10... come on |

SAKO 75: NO, I don't think Leupold sucks.....I just am not going to believe that they make a scope worth $1100. Now, I DO believe that they have the nerve to put $1100 on a price tag!! Like I said, tomorrow if Simmons comes out with a $900 scope, I ain't gonna get all excited about that, either. It took me 25 years to finally get used to the idea that maybe Leupold scopes are worth $400----seeing as how EVERYBODY else in the world is also wanting $400 for their scopes! But I am not going to rush out and buy a Bushnell 4200 for $1100 and I am not going to even consider an $1100 Leupold.

well i had the option of selling some other things for a profit to buy it but i agree that i wouldnt open my wallet and fork out 1400 for any scope save a S&B PMII or US Optics, and they cost more than that. truth be told the vx-2 works for 90-95% of anything

Even though I want my own optics business to do well, I HONESTLY couldn't agree more with this statement. Well put. This goes for most of the other moderately priced rigs as well. But Hey, thats why there's vanilla and chocolate icecream, right ?

problem is that the vxII is a fair amount more than other scopes with comparable glass for the same price of a vxII i could buy a 4200elite and be ahead of the game for less money

Well....to start with FOV is greater with the z6. I really like the XT reticle as well. Bold outer posts and thin cross, nice. Had a vxII 4-12x40 AO, great scope, would do it again. |

I've got some high dollar Leupold tacticals but for some reason this new VX7 improvement doesnt do that much for me. I thought the VXIII scopes were quite adequate for most hunting applications. Of the new stuff that is out there the scope I would really like to take a look at is the new Bushnell 6500 series the magnification range is very impressive. There are several scopes that have very novel ideas like the Trijicon Accupoint 2.5-10x56 with its tritium and fiber optic illumination which would have been better if it was a balistic reticle like their TAO1B. There are a lot of great scopes out there with very expensive glass but I wonder how long it will all last before we start seeing digital scopes like digital cameras that can see better at night than we can with the human eye and have huge zoom range. It happened over night with photography, one day I had a Hasselblad with three $3500 to $4000 a piece lenses with the best german glass made and the next day they werent worth anything because digital cameras got to an equal quality level and were being used for magazine add work which used to be done on Koadachrome 25asa color transparancies. I've seen Chinese digital optics mounted on rifles and a viewer attached to the helment so you could hold the rifle over or around something and shoot at it without exposing yourself to incoming fire --- so why dont we have that?

I think that is in the very near future, unless Uncle Sam has anything to do with it, which he likely will. They can't let us have anything that might be used to even the field so to speak.

If leupold offered the XT reticle in the VX-III series, it could be perfect
