I just bought a new varmint rifle and I was wondering if I could get some feedback on a couple of scopes I'm looking at. The first is a Nikon Buckmaster 6-18X40 with the dot reticle and the second is a Weaver V-24 with the varminter reticle. I already have a Weaver V-16 mounted on a rifle ( dot ) and I have been very happy with it. Any help or advice you guys could give would be very appreciated. nThanks in advance!

Well I am always up to try something new but I notice you have a considerable difference in maximum magnification. I also like the looks of the weaver reticle. Wish I had that in my V16 I have the duplex but I think its too fine

I would go with the Weaver. Firstly it is a better scope, and secondly it has the higher magnification.

It really depends whether it is going to be soley a long distance pd shooter or a multi-tasker taking shots at less than 100 yards. If it is the former, then go with the Weaver, if it is the latter, go with the Nikon.

It won't be solely long range. Where I'm at I shoot anywhere from 50 to 400 yds. I guess I'm looking for a good all around scope. I wasn't really looking for a real high power ( 24 ) but I have a V-16 Weaver with the target dot, and I love it. I just wanted to stay with the dot and that limits my choices somewhat.
