lots of differs on moly coated bullets-- so I thought I'd give it a test, group size changes with out cleaning using moly bullets and to add -- chromed lined barrel.
so 1000 rd test with 190 smk molys and a spr A4 chrome lined barel. 300 wsm with 1/10 twist and loaded up to a hot 30-06 load with 58 grs. of H4350.

That will be an interesting test!
I wouldn't be too surprised if it shoots the tightest groups after several hundred rounds have gone downrange.
Keep the results posted!
What barrel length, and what kind of groups is that combination currently able to produce?
Edited to add: Don't forget initial and occasional chronograph results, if you are able to do so! Edited by RONK - April/19/2008 at 10:33 |

Dale,
I'm exited to see how your test works out.The guy thats teaching me gunsmithing lives by moly but he will only use it if the barrel is also molyed. He say that it dosen't change much if one or the other is done and not both.I don't know for sure ether way but what he say's make good since.

It makes sense to me from the standpoint that you do not want to foul the bore with copper and then deposit moly over that layer, sort of "sealing in" the copper against the bore. If the barrel were first "fouled" with moly, that would not happen, at least in theory.
I don't really know if that is true or not, but have heard it hypothesised a few times.

2750 is the ave. most of the differences in opinion vary around the back and forth use of moly vs. accuracy degenerations in copper. not to concerned with that one since, any results would simply add to one side or the other. primarily concerned with accuracy degeneration from carbon fouling as the other test would be switch back and forth and it would be difficult to determine the contribution by fouling. groups now show 5 shots touching which from prone, in high winds, is very acceptable and practical. what I'm really looking for is the unexplained flyers that should signal some type of land or groove stripping.

rifle originally was shooting 190 smk. bore was cleaned , no extra effort in cleaning and the following five shot groups were with 190 smk moly coated. Not really testing for group size here, but unusual events, like flyers stringing etc. conclusion, shooting moly in a chrome lined barrel is not affected by previous use of copper jacket.
after 100 rds. I will get somebody to chrongraph the loads

Dale,
Did you start at the top left? If you go left to right top down, It looks like moly may be better the more you shoot of it. This is going to be fun to watch. PLEASE keep us posted.
Thanks,
Mike

yes the upper left was the first 5 after a clean. and yes it did appear that the groups "tightened up" a bit-- however I wasn' trying to shoot for groups.

end of 300 rds, 5 shot group no cleaning of anything. target #5 others were caused by scope problems.
