Whats the deal with the 3-9 4200 for $250?  All the other 4200 are 2.5-10 a diferent magnification is it a 3200 with better glass?  Whats the skinny I am sur it is not exactly like the other 4200s at that price.

Aren't they (Bushnell) discontinuing the 3-9x 4200??
If so, then the sale would be a close out.

Look at the mechanicals like the turret, it is not a 3200 with 4200 glass. For the price it is simply outstanding.

yeah, it's amazing for the price.  4200 all the way, the 3-9 is easiest to make, that is why it is cheaper, plus it's the most popular configuration.

It's my understanding that the real difference between the 3-9 and say the 2.5-10 is the erector assembly, meaning a 3x zoom compared to a 4x zoom in the rest of the 4200 line. The 3-9(4200) uses the same one piece tube as the other 4200's. It is also the fact that Bushnell wanted a top of the line 3-9 in the 4200 series to compete with other manufactures top line 3-9 such as the Zeiss Conquest to name just one example. Last year I spoke with a rep from Bushnell who stated that they were going to drop the 4200 3-9 due to the fact that it was hurting the sales of the 2.5-10. Don't know how they didn't for-see that one coming. Further, the saddle on the 3200's is "glued onto the tube and the 4200 utilizes a true one piece tube/saddle. One last thing, and again this is coming from the Bushnell source, the 4200 use a tube made from titanium alloy whereas the 3200's use an alloy tube.

The only difference between a mechanic and an engineer is the smear the mechanic leaves on his face when he picks his nose.

i wish that were true, things would be a lot easier to repair if they were that close to the same train of thought

you will have to excuse me here the engineers that designed certain parts of some of our john deere loaders and bulldozers has had me and my bro in law pissed off most of the week, and asking ourselves why couldnt we be engineers? i reminded him that i suck at math and he hated school.

If Bushnell had the marketing folks that Leupold has, that marketing conflict probably never would have come to pass.

Good point and a quick look at Leupold scopes at http://www.swfa.com/ shows that they have more products and product lines than any manufacturer. They are not afraid to make a product for any segment, from the bottom to the top.

Yes, but they don't cross top line VX3's, for instance, with the same models in the VX2 and VX1 series. That was kinda my point meaning you won't see a 3-9 VX3, VX-L etc.... Also, the price difference between the 3-9 4200 and the 2.5-10 has raised lots of questions as to whether the 3-9 is up the the quality standards of the rest of the 4200 line.

Like the others have said here, get one now before they're all gone! I got one a year ago and it is the finest scope I've ever owned. Better than my older Vari-XII, better than my Fullfield II, better than my Monarch.
Nothing else really competes for $250!

It's just the most produced and lowest cost to produce magnification . As far as what nsaqam said about being better than the others he mentioned ... that's extremely debateable . It's up to quality .... just being phased out . That's how you get low priced deals ... sometimes the last year models are better than the newer ones . They always are cutting something to get that profit margin up ...  if the producers are putting in more .... believe me you'll pay more !

i feel the 4200 is a good scope but in my eyes and i think tahqua feels the same about this, but the 4200 and monarch are to close to call for me, other than the rain guard they are very comparable on all levels, but bushnells cs dept seems like it is better than nikons.
