O.k. folks here's the scoop. The gun shop called yesterday and my new toy is in. It's a Cooper M52 in 25/06. I've been waiting for it for about seven months. Obviously, I want to do it justice. The primary targets are deer and coyotes at ranges up to 400 yards (I would estimate). I'm kind of wanting a little more upper end magnification than a standard 3-9 X 40. I'm also not a fan of huge objective lens. The largest I've ever had was a 42mm Kahles. I would prefer a second focal plane unit with good (maybe great) glass.  Pricewise I'm at 1 K + or -. I've got some ideas but I'd like some feedback. Some I'm considering are: Meopta Meostar 4-12 X 40; Sightron Big Sky 3-12 X 42; Leuppy Mark 2 4-12 X 40 and maybe another Swaro American (already have one). Possibly, a Zeiss Conquest may also fill the bill. Each of these afore-mentioned units have +'s and -'s so no decision has been made. Anyway, all input is welcomed. Thank you in advance.

Are you considering a hold over type reticle or do want to dial your shots?

Those Coops are the $hit!! Congrats!!

Damn, bugsNbows, that is a truly first class rig you're assembling there!  I have 2 Cooper varmint rifles and they will flat out SHOOT and look nice doing it!

For $1K, I would get either a Kahles or Swaro American off the Sample List or a Zeiss Conquest.  I don't have experience with Meopta, but the Meostars get high praise.

Addendum, I kind of like the holdover type of reticles.

Both of these have the hold over reticles and are in the stated price range.
I have 2 coopers and they are real shooters. I am waiting on the left hand 52s to hit the market.

Got one on a .270 wsm, has hit good using the marks on the reticle out to 600 yards so far. Still looking for a range to shoot out to 800. Wouldn't give it up for anything. Good glass too. The Rapid-Z800 matches the ballistics of your -06 very well out to at least 700 yards with a 120 grain winchester super-x, and pretty much dead nuts to 800 with 110 grain accubond ct remington ammo. Not the best varmint bullets but anything else would be close enough out to 400. You can check out the Rapid-Z calcuator for your load on Zeiss's site.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I guess right now I'm leaning towards the Conquest.

I have a conquest 4.5-14 with the standard reticle
recently got a Swarovksi American 3-10442 and a Kahles 3-10x50 MZ with the 4a reticle

I can tell you the Kahles is the best glass and especially noticable at night
