Dose anyone have trouble with static in there powder thrower? In the shop at my house witch is on central heat/air I’m having a little trouble with it. Dose anyone know of a fix for getting rid of it.When i pour powder in it shoots about a grain back out at me and pulls powder up the drop tube wall. It's neat to watch but kind of a pain sometimes.. |

I thought about that and also maybe some hair spray. Just didn't know if anyone here had any tricks of the trade.

I would ground it, as Silver suggested, with copper wire to a copper rod driven into the ground.
Adding a little humidity to the air through your central heating system (via central humidifier) would probably help your indoor environment if it's that dry. I should do that in my house too. I know it would help alleviate my chronic sinus congestion. Edited by RONK - March/27/2008 at 21:00 |

Thanks guys,
I thought about running it to the trinagle ground to my house but it seems like alot of work just for the winter months of loading.I even thought of running a#14 wire from an outlet to my loading tables to keep the static down. but I do Know when I use rubber gloves and it is cold that the powder getts a mind of it's on and jumps around like a mexican jumpping bean.I might try closeing the vent during the winter and getting a small electric heater to keep the air from geting so dry. I have to run humidifiers in the upper part of the house for the sinus thing because it keeps my 1 year olds nose stopped up all the time.
Thanks again.

wipe the parts, and inside before adding powder, with a diabetic alchol swab, the alcohol will change the capacitance of the charge (absorb the electrons) , and dry out before it can cause any accumulation

Good advise Dale.
I thought about trying to tape a anti static dryer towle to the out side of the powder dropper first as mentioned above first but I'll try both at the same time to see if it will fix my problem. I have 500 22-250 cases to load . So I should have a good idea if it will work or not by the end of this weekend.

Get an anti static mat for your bench top. You can get them at an electronics supply or computer shop. Use it when you work on your computer and it will help save your memory and microchips. They also have anti static chair mats. They work.
