Well I got a new toy. Picked it up yesterday. It's still a work in progress, but that's half the fun, right? Cheaptrick is going to post a picture, cause I still haven't figured out how to make the picture large enough so that people can see it.

Thanks Cheaptrick. It's a YHM. To tell you the truth. I don't know a lot about these types of rifles. I had a long talk with American Spirit Arms about what I liked the looks of, and pretty much left it up to them. Nice guys.

That's a very nice set up you have there!!
Are you planning on mounting a flashlight on it?

It's a collapsible stock. Either 4 or 5 position.
It allows the operator a variety of different stock positions based on mission requirements.
Fully collapsed like the pic, is generally for use inside a vehicle or an APC.
Other positions for ACOG's, scopes, etc. Really a cool inovation.
Mine's a 5 position and I usually have it set on position 3, nose to charging handle, unless the rifles scoped, then it goes out to 5. Edited by cheaptrick - April/05/2008 at 16:28 |

It telescopes out when you squeeze the lever under the tube. that way it is adjustable to 4 or five preset lengths.
I was too slow. Good show cheaptrick. Edited by 3_tens - April/05/2008 at 16:29 |

Nice M-4 , ckk1106. I recently built one like it with a DPMS lower and Stag upper. I've got a YHM quadrail up front, and a green laser, tactical flashlight, and vertical forward grip. An EOTECH 512 will go on it next.
Hope you have fun!

Thanks Derek. This gun is pretty fun to shoot. Although expensive. I loaded 60 rounds yesterday, took it to the range, and left after 15 minutes or so cause I had run out of bullets. I imagine I will get a flashlight, Mark. They do look pretty cool decked out with all the accessories. I might have to get another job, though.

It doesn't take long to burn up a 20 or 30-round magazine full of cartridges, does it?
FUN doesn't even begin to describe this rifle/carbine platform.

Along with being "fun", an AR15 is a damn money pit too!! Seems like there is an endless array of must have high speed gadgetry and widgets so that you are never really "finished" building one.
Any work stoppage is only caused because your broke, your credit cards maxed out, divorced, or awaiting more parts that are in the mail. It's truly amazing how much money a guy can sink into one rifle. Edited by cheaptrick - April/06/2008 at 13:00 |

I think on the next one I build, instead of stopping within a given budget, I'll just quit when it reaches a given weight!

nice gun fwiw, the shorter stock is used in specific applications were body armour makes the pectoral area wall about 2-3 inches thicker than normal and the entry technique or shooting tech. requires the shooter to hold the gun against this, instead of the pocket of the shoulder. this allows transistion to a handgun faster if the need arises and still allow the handgun to clear the webbing of the carbine. .
