English web site version http://www.swarovskioptik.com/index.php?c=produkte&l=us&nID=x434b76b737c887.28186349&css=&detail=us1168357436__ID45a3b83c382334.64403456&produktname=Z6%20%2F%20Z6i Looks good but man, anything over 50mm, doesn't it sit kind of high? Why would plastic turrets be a concern? Everything else about the z6 is awesome other than the price. Edited by mike650 - March/19/2008 at 11:36 |

The scope is nice and it is durable, I am as some of you just a tad leery of the plastic turrets as well. I would think that there would be some after market availability for this reason though. I also think that on a scope of this range in price should not be using plastic anyway.

I agree- this would put the scope in the same class as diavari 6x24x56, S&B and USO stuff world class, the best of the best, and then along comes plastic turrets. With what is available I wouldn't even consider it. Usually scopes in the 15x are more into the dial in type long range. Another concern here is the AO and if there will be one. One of the reasons the Z6 have such great optics is that there is no additional AO correction lense between the front and the erector to degrade the image. If they include this with the new model how much is it going to degrade the image- then how will it compare with the Zeiss, (which is who they are going after).

If the new Z-6s are supposed to be the latest and greatest offerings from Swarovski, why do they come with plastic turrets and 10 year warranties whereas the PHs come with metal turrets and lifetime warranties? Just a question. I own 2 PHs and love them. Wanted to purchase a Z-6 until I looked through it and seen how small the second focal plane plex reticle is. Definitely will not do for me what I need it to in low light conditions. Other than that, the view through the glass was excellent.

Dale, I could be wrong but it the 2.5-15 appears to have a side focus not AO (at the end of the bell.) Looking at the side view picture of the 2.5-15x56 z6 it looks like it has a dial on the side. Behind the side view pic, could be another model like the 2-12x50 z6i. I agree, for the price metal caps would be nice but the plastic looks durable, other than cosmetics, any down falls. I thought the same about the z6 warranty per my registration card but if you go to their web site it says limited lifetime, maybe it's changed, which makes sense. Since the product is so new some of the earlier info may have been incorrect or updated. I found some inconsistencies in the documentation in regards to what comes with the z6 and was taken care of by SONA. Their customer service is A1!! I just called SFWA and they said it's a "Lifetime Warrenty". Looks like I'm calling SONA tomorrow. http://www.swarovskioptik.com/index.php?c=produkte&l=us&nID=x462ef16724dd84.69362868&css=&gruppe=x434b76b737c887.28186349&detail=us1168357436__ID45a3b83c382334.64403456 If the plex is too small for you try the 7a or 4a, they look great on the z6 and not too bold for my tastes. if it is a side ao then there will be an additional lenses component behind the first and in front of the erector, which will degrade compared to a front ao and no additonal lenses system.

not talking about caps here talking about the actual turrets.

ohhhh, sorry, me bad, trying to multi-task, work and play. The turrets are plastic? Got look at mine tonight. Gotcha on the AO, makes sense as to why I perfer the front AO better. |

Are we talking about turrets or turret caps? If turrets, I have 2 AV series and 2 PH series Swaro scopes, and all 3 have plastic turret knobs and aluminum caps. The PH series has plastic turrets as well, but aluminum caps. Every Swaro scope I've seen at least during the past 15 years had plastic turret knobs, so this is nothing new. I know the Z6 has plastic turret knobs, but I thought the caps were aluminum. Is this not the case?
I totally agree that a scope this expensive should include very little, if any plastic. This is one of the gripes I have with Zeiss scopes, as they use both plastic turrets AND caps. I have to admit, this has never been a problem functionally. In the same way I think plastic trigger guards really detracts from the appearance, feel, and perception of quality of a rifle, I just don't like the thought, feel, and appearance of plastic parts on such a high priced piece of equipment, great optics or not. This isn't a deal breaker for me; it's just an annoyance. Edited by RifleDude - March/19/2008 at 17:11 |

Good point RifleDude. Now I am curious and I'll have to check. I have an old Swar Habicht Nova 3-12X56 and I believe the turrets and caps are metal while the PH has a plastic turret with metal caps.

Called SONA and verified, the warranty is now the same for all their rifle scopes. I also checked each scope warranty listed on the webs site and it appears the same as well. Swarovski Optik offers a lifetime warranty on the optical system of our products for products purchased by US residents from an authorized Swarovski Optik North American dealer. Once examined, if it is determined that the optical system is defective we will repair or replace the instrument or defective part. Swarovski Optik warrants all other parts of the instrument for ten years from date of purchase against defects in materials or workmanship, subject to normal use. All electronic components are warranted for two years against defects in materials and workmanship, subject to normal use, from date of purchase. All non-optical products (i.e. accessories, tripods etc.) are warranted for one year from date of purchase. |
