Anyone have any advice about the quality of the different brands of red-dot sights out there?  I have a Ar-15 w/16" barrel and I'm looking for something that isn't crazy expensive but still pretty rugged.

This one was suggested to me by a couple of people.  I don't have any experience with it, though.

I have been playing for a some weeks now with a Millett ZoomDot.  So far I am impressed with it.  It is pretty versatile and seems very rugged.

Hi,

A friend of mine who is in the Army, has been testing several different Millett optics is very impressed with the Zoom Dot.  He has one on his duty rifle and hasn't had to rezero it since last August.  He hasn't had to change the battery either.  He's put it through all sorts of abuse to see if it will hold up under combat conditions and so far it has.  The Zoom Dot is going to be riding his weapon when he leaves to go over seas.

I know the next red dot sight I'll get will be a Zoom Dot.

Catch you later,

SPOT Mk.III (appx $150) or Burris XTS-135 (appx $200) are both Aimpoint-style red dot sights that have garnered good user reviews with the SPOT surviving a torture test that destroyed the AR it was attached to. The Burris is the SPOT but with better water & shockproofing. HTH...
