You are absolutely correct Super, I stand in the category of believers that if you are going to possibly shoot long range then you should invest in a decent rail with adequate moa for your cartridge and scope combination.

I found a LaRue SPR mount with 10 MOA for $195 at their website.
Would that work?  Or is there another you recommend?
 
That would be $800 -$200 for the mount and the $600 Bushnell 6500 2.5-16x42 mildot scope. 
For the $600 is there anything better??

I think the pic is showing low rings instead of the medium, but with the base mediums should be just right on an AR

The Burris sig rings use the offset inserts. for a lot less than a rail. They do not have the tube torq that shimming will give.

Need to follow the rules. Just hard to determine which set of rules to follow
