I can't hardly believe I did it..... I even had my wife slap me to make sure I wasn't in a dream or something! Big%20Grin  I found my Son's first Deer Rifle...... a LEFT hand Rem. 700 CDL in .......drumroll please ..... 270 Win.   Did I really say that....... 270 Win?

Well, I was having the damnest time.  He really liked the smooth action of the 700 and the Scheels in Lincoln had a brand new one for $699.99.  I re-read some posts here and one of them said that the .270 is great for deer or antelope and this is what this gun is for.  If someday he gets into Elk or similar sized game, he can buy something on his own for that.  He already has a 22-250 for the small stuff and the 130 grn bullets will have a little less recoil than the 150 grn -06!  For the first few years he can even use the "Managed Recoil" line in 115 grain which is still better than a .243 100 grn!

If someday he really wants an -06, he can re-barrel this one and he's good to go.  Now I've got to sell some extra scopes so I can get a Conquest 3-9X40!
take em!

Ed, you didn't happen to star in the movie "Deliverance," did you?

Tip69, your son will always remember his first deer rifle fondly!  It's extra special because his dad gave it to him.  Good job, and thanks for helping recruit a new hunter/shooter into the fold!Thunbs%20Up

I had one in my hands, left hand that is, just a couple of days ago, and the CDL is very nice and looks to be worth every penny.  Your son will love it............ from a .270 owner.

Got the BDL LH with Zeiss. Shoots like a laser with Win 130 gr Ballistic Slivertips, sub-MOA. 22 in bbl makes for VERY loud muzzle blast. The gun kicks unexpectedlly hard also. It's my first bolt gun and I hope you son loves and enjoys him like I do mine. You got him a good'un!

Born a Tennessee Volunteer. I will go anywhere to get out of this flatland dust bowl. By the way This picture was taken in the Nebraska National Forrest just East of Thedford on Hwy 2. Where are the trees???

The trip to SD last Cctober was exhausting, and being very tired may have missed some things but what forest...... How can a person miss an entire National Forest? No wonder I can't hit anything.

Cyborg understands my confusion.

Great buy Tip, your son like myself will always remember that first rifle.  In his case, I guess this is his second, but first deer rifle.  You did good, the 270 is a great caliber, good all around and here in NC, alot of people use it for deer.  My first rifle was from good old Santa Claus at age 11, a Remington 742 BDL Deluxe in a 30-06, that still looks like it is brand new.  I wish I could see his face when you give it to him.  My son by my second marriage is one, just turned and I cannot wait to get him his first rifle.  I say I bought the 260 Remington, Steyr Mannlicher for him and it will be his, but you know how that goes, it was a good reason to buy a rifle.  Your a good dad.
