Proper way to test rimfire trigger?

I know its not good to "dry-fire" a rimfire......... so what's the best way to test their trigger pull weight?  Is a snap-cap the only option?

Does that work for center fire as well?  Wouldn't the dent in the center be too far in from the previous firing to stop the pin on any subsequent firing?
