......................................Since Meade Instruments took over Weaver, there has been some speculation, that there were material changes in the Weaver line of scopes and that Meade is in some sort of trouble and was selling out! Not true!........There have been no material changes in quality in the Weaver scopes (great Jap glass) and Meade has just signed a new 5 year building lease on their corporate headquarters here in Irvine Calif. (20 miles from me).... All warranty issues, should that need arise, will be handled accordingly for all Weaver scope owners!!..................The Classic V line of Weavers are very good scopes for the money. They are rated at 94% light transmission @550nm, where as the Leupold VX2`s are rated at 92%. The Weaver Grand Slam`s are also rated at 94%!............The majority of owner reviews on a competitor site are 5 stars; 5 stars being the best!......For what you pay for and assuming your budget is under $300 for a 4x16 scope, IMO, the Weaver Classic V line is an excellent choice and would definetely do a wonderful job on your .223!!!.....................

We have a weaver, redfield and simmons warranty plant here in Ga. The Weaver, is a decent scope for the duckage, as is the redfield.

I have a 3-10 Grand Slam and a T series 4-16 and really like them both . Optics are just a touch shy of a 4200 or Monarch, but not off by much. I certainly would put the clarity above a 3200, Buckmaster,  and even a little ahead of a VX II, and in line with a VX III.
