Hello All-
I recently purchased a Remington 700 sps Tactical .223 and need help selecting a scope. I would like good quality at a resonable price. Low light is a factor .....shooting up to 200 yrds. I will also be usung it for a little target practice.
I would like to be able to learn with this scope so if it can have adjustment knobs/tach style - great.
I am new to this so I appreciate all your patients.
Leupold - I was told was great but seem a bit expensive.
Nikon - Also advised were good but not sure what one?
I am looking to spend $300 or less. Also if you could advise on mount rings/system - that would be great.
Thank you.

If low light is a factor, a 10x42 fixed magnification scope would not be my choice.
Look for a decent variable somewhere along the lines of 3-9x40 or similar. Bushnell Elite 4200 3-9x40 is probably a good way to go. For a little less money you can get Sightron S2 3-9x42 which is also very good and right around $200. ILya |

Koshkin:
I saw the poster's low light reference, but I didn't give it a lot of credence when I saw his budget and other requirements quoted above.
I see a lot of folks that hold low light performance in high regard, only to find out that they shoot 99.9% in broad day light. (Like me)
But then again, maybe I'm wrong in this case.
How important is "low light performance" to you, Brad? Is this a hunting rifle or more target?

You are asking for a fair amount out of a scope for 300 dollars, for quality optics. I agree with Koskin, the Sightron would be my choice, not only for the money, but for the performance. Great scope and leaves you plenty of money for quality mounts and rings. Another choice if you want more of a "tactical" scope is a Mueller TAC II. Made in Japan with quality optics, mildot reticle, it is a very good scope, again, not for the money only, but for the performance. It does not have true tactical adustment knobs, but removing the caps, it can certainly function as such, as they are mounted high and are finger adjustable. I own one of each and love them both.

I put a Sightron SII 3-9X42 on my Tikka and it has performed well. I've hunted in overcast, limited light conditions and killed everythng I shot at out to over 300 yards. There are better scopes but for substantially more money. On your budget you could not go wrong with that one.

When you first said Low Light is a factor my first thought was an IOR 6x42 tactical
