What is the final word on Ruger factory rings? Are they a quality product or junk? nobody seems to be able to agree on this. I am contemplating some after market rings but I really like the look of the Rugers. C'mon Ruger owners, share your experiences with the ol' Bricat I need some first hand info from actual users of the rings. Thank you so much, Bricat

I think they're a quality product, I've never had any problems with mine & you sure can't beat the price.

I've used them for years with 1" tubes. Only problem I have run across is the screws tend to back out over time. My Ruger rings are the slot screw type, hard to lock them down without stripping the screw head. Never tried Loctite though, it would probably solve the problem. Not sure if the newer rings come with star or allen screws, that would also help out quite a bit. They are good about not damaging the scopes. Just removed 5 scopes from Rugers and only very faint ring marks on guns that were heavily used over the years.

I think the Ruger rings are a very good product. From my own experience with them they seem to be rock solid, and they do look sharp. The ones that came on my M77 MKII had the star head screws on them and they locked good. I never had any issues with them backing out.

I have never had a problem with them in handguns or rifles. They are a quality item. My favorite after market ring is Warne, so far, though.

Yes, I also love the Warne rings but everyone here is giving some pretty positive views of the factory rings so i think on this rig I will stick with the rugers.

Good to hear that they have gotten away from the slot head screw. Most of my Rugers were purchased from 1996-2000, so it seems they must have changed since then. I ordered a new set a few weeks ago for a 30mm tube, called the shop and they are in, heading to pick them up now!

from a theory point they start out good, but there are so much tolerances in their casting procedure, you can't count on getting a good pair.. I've had
mis-aligned top straps
threads that where forgotten in the bottoms
broken cross bolts,
off center cross bolts,
but on the other hand have gotten some really good ones, and they were all the blued steel type.

At the moment there is 4 Ruger rifles in my safe as well, and there has been some more at times.
So far I never had a problem with Ruger rings,... not one, and I have been a happy Ruger customer for + 20 years.
Ruger´s mounting system is one among other reasons that I use Ruger rifles.

They are well designed and very strong, but as Dale said, they aren't exactly the most precisely made rings you can get. There's nothing wrong with them that a little lapping (to correct for slight misalignment) won't cure, though. I do like the integral mounting directly to the receiver, and they certainly aren't going anywhere once mounted!

RifleDude or tahqua or anyone else that can help me out..............I had ordered a set of Ruger 30mm rings and went to pick them up today and the dealer ordered high and xtra high for some reason. I told him I was going to mount a 1.7-10x42mm Z6 on the rifle yet he orders high rings. I have since decided to mount the new Kahles 1.5-6x 42 I purchased on the Ruger 270 WSM and buy another for the 7mm-08 when it comes in. Can somone point me in the right direction of ring height needed for this application. Surely, I can get by with low or medium rings? I've always let a smith mount my scopes, but time to start doing it myself to recoup some of the money I've shelled out lately on new scopes. I've searched the net with no luck.

Every time I've ever mounted a scope with 40 / 42mm objective, medium rings have always worked, regardless of ring brand. |

Medium rings will work fine. I ordered a set of mediums for my 3-10x50 30mm Meostar and they just barely too short. Had to send them back and get the highs. But mediums should work just fine for a 42mm objective, especially if it's on a 30mm tube.
