Does anyone here have any personal experience with Karl Kaps scopes?
Apparently, they are now imported to US and are pretty reasonably priced compared to other German scopes. They also claim to have a daylight visible illuminated dot in their new 1-4x22 scope. I also find their 4x28 MIL scope interesting. For a mid-range hunting scope, they offer a 2-8x42, which seems interesting since upon reflection I think I would rather have 2x on low end then 9x on high end. ILya |

I do not know a whole lot about these. They have an english version of their website which provides a touch more information. I have also heard a few people say nice things about these scopes, but no first-hand information.

Kaps is an older and smaller company that has had problems getting a US distributor.

I have seen the Kaps Optik scopes at a gun show in Hattiesburg, Ms. They seem well constructed and had great glass. They, like Seeadler and Pecar, do not try to make the scopes "pretty" like the upper end German companies. This helps keep the costs down. I would like to try one for myself, and if I see them again, I will, and will post the results.

Hi,
I have a German friend who advised me that the Karl Kaps scopes are similar to S & B in build and quality, but much cheaper.
He always used S & B but now he has two Karl Kaps scopes.
Hope this helps.

Just to bring this back to the top.
It looks like I may be able to get my hands on a Kaps scope after all. Not entirely sure when, but hopefully within the next few weeks. I've got another person saying that they can compete against S&B. I do not yet know what they will cost here since Euro is so much higher than the dollar, but they will certainly be below S&B prices. I'll keep you posted. Apparently, Kaps has some sort of a brand spanking new sniper reticle calibrated for 308 and a BDC of some sort. I'll try to get my hands on a 2.5-10x50 scope with that reticle, since it sounds like an interesting choice. ILya |

I do not have any personal expericene from Kaps.
But they once sold fairly well here as mostly people expected the quality to be like all other German scopes, but the reputation got all damaged by reticles that fall apart and other problems.

Hi all,
This is from a good friend of mine from Germany.
This is his remarks regarding Karl Kaps Scopes.
My new Kaps scope is the same quality as S+B, but cheaper.
The model is a variable 2,5 - 10 / 56 scope, reticle #4 illuminated, list price 1.400 Euro. The dealer trades this scope with me.
It Is a 1:1 copy of the S+B. The same lenses, same technique, but a Tiptronic version. That means there is a electronic chip inside, which is able to remember the last intensity of the illuminated reticle.
It needs only to push a button to start the illumination and to stop it - with the same intensity.
Check out this link:
It is an old German company, they produce only 4.000 scopes p.a. But the are first choice.

If you do get your hands on one of these scopes, I'll be anxious to hear your comments about it. I've seen a few (very few) of these scopes at trade shows, but have never used one or even looked through one outside of a building.
