Today was not a "Great" day to go to the range.  It was 65-70 degrees and sunny but the wind was all over the place with 12-15mph with gusts to 20mph.  The flag was popping like a towel in a gym locker room more than once.  My crono acted up but all in all it beats going to work any day of the week.
As you may have remembered I was interested in most accurate .308 load article in reloader
magazine.  Their article gave results as of what brand of brass, bullets, primers, etc, etc.  To make it short, they got their best results using CCI 250 large rifle Mag primers.  Something I was always told was a no no due to "you don't use Mag primers in a short case like a .308."   We I gave it a whirl, guess what? It did not make a significant difference in my rifle.

Here is 6 shots with the 250's

With the wind blowing as it was the one flier give me an excuse but it shouldn't.
I think the BR-2 gave just as good a group. Both are sub half MOA.

Hey Cheaptrick- Did you happen to notice that Voodoo 6 thought that Mikes shooting was 'Great' but that your shooting was only  'Okay, I guess'...?

Ronk,
Obviously VooDoo6, being a newbie, has not had time to see CT work with Black Betty!!!  The sisters speak for themselves not for us.  You just gotta know how to stroke them to get them to sing!!!  Ain't that right CT?    Wink

I have not tried the 155s yet, I did try the A-max 155s though.  My son Andy tried them an claimed the whole batch for himself. LOL  In retrospect I should not have bought him a .308.
If a load shoots well hes all over it.

I know Dan, I try, but I just have to keep at it. One day I'm going to get groups like Mike McDonald. Until then I just have to burn powder and understand were I have room for improvement!   I don't remember who came up with this motto but I try to claim it.  Good, Better, Best never let it rest until good is better and better is Best!!!  C.I. (Continuous Improvement) is a good thing, just ask my Boss!!!Roll on Floor Laughing

I found that it's a lot easier to get good groups the fewer rounds you send downrange. Devil

Heck, if you can get a small group with just one shot, why waste ammo trying to do better?

 Ain't gonna happen.

Just pack up and go home, whistling happily, and congratulating yourself for a good day at the range!!  Whistling

After going over the data again I did see a difference with the 250s over the BR-2s  the BR-2s pushed the 168s at 2725fps the 250s push them to 2770fps. Interesting I missed that the first time I was just looking at the group sizes.

Nice shootin steel. What was your extreme spred, and standard deviation on the BR-2s and CCI 250s? Did you use the same powder charge, or did you work back up to it?

The battery in my Pact was dying so it gave me fits most of the day but I want to say by the data I did get it was ES 32 fps SD of 11 fps.  I have a friend who is a jeweler and his diamond scales 1/100 of a grain repeatability.  Basically down to a half kernel of powder.

That would make sense.  All my reading indicates that the 250s are hotter, therefor faster burn in chamber.  Also higher internal pressures, which is the major warnings I read about when using Mag primers in short actions, so watch for hi pressure signs!
