My first post here so here's a little background.

Family man, military, outdoor enthusiast.  Stationed in Southern Arizona I do a lot of recreational shooting since it can prove difficult to hide a family of 4 while hunting (camo gets expensive lol)... but we're steadily working on that.

I am trying to decide how to mount a SWFA SS 3-9 to my 20" FNAR.  Holding zero on a budget is what I'm after.  Any info at all is much appreciated.

I've recently sold off my Remington 770 and Mossberg ATR in a fit of frustration when it comes to the quality associated with cheap rifles.  The FNAR and SWFA SS is my whole hearted attempt to own something that is worth having and while I don't want to cheap out on scope rings, my budget is about maxed out with the rifle and scope.

For the best bang for your buck TPS -
TPS Mounts

I believe the FNAR has a pic rail already so you just need good rings.  I think, keyword think, lows would get you by but may wanna confirm first.  Kickboxer has an FNAR but not sure what he is using, hopefully he will chime in on the issue.

SVT is correct... you cannot go wrong with the TPS rings and they look good on the FNAR.  I believe lows are just what you need.  BTW... LOVE my FNAR, my "zombie gun".  Smooth, accurate, just an all around excellent rifle for just about anything.  I have the Kahles ZF84 on mine with TPS rings... 26mm.  Love the scope on this gun.  It is BDC for 7.62x51 and I have it dialed in with Barnes TTSX 168gr.  Makes a wonderful hog gun... all I've hunted with it so far... well, zombies, but they don't count...

Man, thanks for the quick replies!

Kickboxer, you happen to have a recommendation for a bipod?  I'm looking to fire from a seated position on the ground.  Laying down out here can be a dangerous proposition with all the stuff that'll poke you.

I'm not KB but if you don't mind carrying your pod seperate I'd use this,
if you want it to attach to the gun then harris is good I think this on would work for a sitting position -

I've got the Warne medium quick release rings on my FNAR with SS 3-9. I use the high check weld.

There are quite a few posts out there on the FNAR thread in the FNforum.

I love my FNAR

I'm thinking about getting a mount so I can run my SS or VX6, and a red dot angled off to the side.

Kickboxer:  Have you tried running any 208gr out of your FNAR?  Right now I reload 168gr Amax and it loves them.

Bipod:  I ordered the Harris S25 (on backorder) and a quick release mount

The Barnes 168gr TTSX is so accurate, I haven't even tried the special German military loads I have.  Twist rate is 1:12.  Have not even thought about the 208gr stuff... but off the cuff, probably need 1:11 or 1:10 for them to do really well.  I'm not sure of the bullet length, though.  I'm just making a SWAG

Edit: glad i posted that. I thought the fnar had a 1:10 twist. I doubted your 1:12, but went and looked it up. You are absolutly correct. You just save me a bunch of time and money.

Another issue with the 208's i've heard is beign able to load mag length without a compressed load.  Just an FYI.  I could not load them to fit into the mag box of my 700 and get good results.  Although i did try some loaded out and single loaded them and got great results.
