I have a Surefire "Aviator" light, and it's nice and all, but I bought it before the current explosion of super high output LEDs, so its output pales in comparison to what you can get today for much less money.
I also have a Browning "Huntmaster" light, which runs on 3 CR123 lithium batts, and it is awesome! It puts out a searing 500 lumens on high, and something like 250 lumens on "low," which is still plenty for my use. Supposedly, it provides 100 hrs runtime on low. I'd say that's a bit optimistic, but I think batt life is still decent for the output level. The head adjusts for beam width. It's all machined aluminum construction. I've been VERY happy with mine. http://www.browning.com/products/catalog/flashlights/detail.asp?fid=050H&cid=371&tid=1236 |

As far as flashlight go I have spent a lot of time using them as a police officer. I really like the Streamlight products and the Stinger is a really handy little rechargable light and the battery stick should easily last two of three years with heavy use on a daily basis. I also have an issued 511 light which does not use batteries it uses a capacitor to store energy and recharges very quickly but the charge does not last nearly as long as a Stinger. I bow hunt and have several lights that I take along to follow the blood trail after dark. I find that a head mounted light with LED bulbs is very handy and that it is always a good idea to have at least one battery power light so when everything else runs out of power you can get back to the truck and for that something that runs AA batteries is ideal. There are lots of expensive CR123 battery powered lights that are compact and bright but dam those batteries are spendy. Thanks but no thanks Id rather have less power and run AA batteries that I can find anywhere. Still my favorite of all flashlights are the Streamlight brand rechargable lights. The SL 20 and no longer made SL 35X made formidable impact weapons and were wonderfully effective tools so effective they took them away but they hold a special place along with blackjacks in the hearts of many an old street cop.
