Hello:

I'd like to mount a Kahles CL 2-7x36 on my 30/06 M70 Winchester.  I'd like to know if the scope is long enough to mount without the need for an offset mount.  I'd like there to be no overlap of the bases into the action inlet.  My plan is to use S&K bases and rings if the scope is long enough to span the action.  I don't want to buy the scope unless I am sure I can mount it without the need for an offset.

I looked at the Kahles website and according their measurements the 2-7x36 is just as long as the 3-9x42, between the objectives.

       Thanks for the help.

Tom

Not sure if these will fit, suggest you call SWFA and check. This does make a nice setup since rings and base are one piece and the price is reasonable.  measure the distance between the back one of the front two screws and the front one of the back two screws and have that info so they can know how long the action is to compare to the body of the scope. The 2-7 variable does not have nearly as long a body as a lot of scopes so it could be close, and SWFA would be more likely to know what will work.

Tom I have a 4-12X52mm CL mounted on a 70 long action. I used Leupold bases and the dual dovetail rings. I'll have to look at the rifle again tonight to answer the question about the overlap. If there was any, it was minimal.

Tom, since you said you wanted to use S&K rings, give them a call.  They can probably answer all your questions about base overhang into the ejection port and ring spacing on the M70 action.  I have the same scope and the same rings on a Kimber short action and there's a little over an inch of combined extra tube length on either side of the ring spacing, so I'd bet it will work.  The bases don't extend into the ejection port.
