About 6 months ago I bought a couple of Redfield 6x18x40mm scopes.  They offered a lot of value, but one of them went belly up and wouldn't hold zero, so I sent it in.  Turnaround was pretty quick, but when I got it back, it wasn't my scope, it was a reconditioned one.  I checked it over as usual.  I immediately noticed that when I shined a light in the ocular end, I could see a milky film on the back of the lens.  It is not obvious when looking through it normally in daylight, but it has to impede light transmission at dusk.  It is headed back in a day or two.  The objective end was fine.
