Lifetime warranty and excellent customer service don't mean a thing when your gun fails during a zombie attack.

Did you get it through the CMP, or a gun shop?

Actually got it at Cabela's I was going to go through CMP until I saw this one. It is in great shape and no waiting so I got it. Probably over paid a bit but It's mine now lol. I really wanted a WW2 issue one too and there is no guarantee through CMP.

Now you need to find a CMP M1 clinic in your State, and start shooting M1 matches.

They are a great piece of history to own and shoot. A couple of things you may want:
Also, check out http://thecmp.org/training-tech/armorers-corner/gas-cylinder/. A common issue with the M1 is a loose gas cylinder. Since the front sight is attached to it, this can affect shot consistency. That page has instructions on peening to tighten it up if need be. Over time, the seal between the op rod "button" and the gas cylinder can lessen due to wear. It used to be you could get the op rod rebuttoned. I dunno since I haven't had one done if there's still anyone doing it. Anyway, these generally aren't things to worry about much. The rifle was designed and built for durability and dependability. It's a workhorse. Enjoy!

Thanks. I had it checked out by a gunsmith who happens to be pretty knowledgeable about M1's, M1a's and M14's who changed out all the springs. Since the op rod spring came out in 3 pieces he had no choice on that one. The rifle was then given a clean bill of health and deemed range ready.

Wow! You'd think Cabelas wouldn't sell an M1 at their premium markups without checking functionality. That said, my M1's op rod spring came completely gunked up. Cleaning the spring wasn't so bad, but the tube was a mess.
