Well I think I am finally getting my groups zeroed in.  I went and shot it today and shot these 10 shot groups.  Both of them were quickly fired.  Just enough time in between shots to police my brass from my action to my ammo case and slide another one in from the mag.

My gun is a .308 Rem700 action with a Lilja barrel.  HS stock, IOR 3-18x42 scope.

The bottom left shot was my clean cold bore shot so it opened up the group just a little.  But it is still right in there.

It was Federal brass that I have worked over the best I ever have.  Freshly annealed, turned the necks to .015 used a Hornady bushing die at .338.  Cut the primer pockets evenly, trimmed the flash holes evenly. 43 grains of Varget.  Avg speed of the 10 shots was 2694 with a ES of 30.25  175 grain SMK with the bullets set .006 off the lands.

Group size was .54 in.  If you take off the CCB shot it was .43 in.  Not to bad for a 10 shot group.

2nd Group

This group was with 42.5 grain Varget.  Bottom left shot on this was the clean cold bore shot as well.  This whole group It was a little more opened up.  Its average speed was 2670 with a ES of 25.5

Overall size .72 in.  With out the CCB shot .54 in.  This was a 10 shot group as well.

1st Group

Nice shooting supertool.  Those 175gr SMK's perform well.  Stuff like this gives me the urge to go back to reloading.  Very good, man.

I just went out this evening and shot a few more and my first 10 shot group minus the clean cold bore shot was .35 in.  With the CCB is was .65in.  I am thinking I may have found a good load.  Now if I can just figure out how to bring my ES down into the low teens or lower I might have a shooter on my hands.  Now the work begins.  Big Grin

OMG, OMG, OMG. I have to have one of those. That is a great shooting rig ST. Do you have any kind of preference in new barrels? I'll be rebarreling one soon at this rate. I was looking at a Krieger, but Lilja, and Shilen also catch my eye. How do you know what to use?
I would like to put a little heavier barrel on it, and flute it. I think I would have to inlet my stock for that, but that's what I'm after.

Yeah, nothing like doubling the cost of your rifle........but think how it would shoot! Not that it shoots horribly now, but...............oh, I have to stop thinking about it. I'll talk myself into it.

How much would I really gain? I think it's pretty accurized already. I don't know that a custom tube would help me much either, as I am already shooting its best loads about as well as I can shoot, but I know this barrel won't last forever. Just trying to figure out what I'll do when it's done.

Have you had the crown checked on that rifle? Fairly cheap accuracy insurance.

I went with the Lilja because they had the shortest wait time.  I was debating between Kreigher, Pac Nor and Lilja and Lilja was like 3 months or something the others were at least twice that at the time.  Plus one of the rifle instructors that I take classes from has a precision rifle with a Lilja barrel and is always talking it up and I have seen his rifle shoot.  So sold me a little too.

The best part about it is how easy it cleans.  There is virtually no copper residue in the barrel.  I brush it with Copper Killer and then push a patch through and it has barely any green on the patch, 2nd patch has none.  My factory barrel took forever to get all the copper out of it, this takes 5 minute total time to clean the barrel copper and carbon.  It is awesome that way.  That alone is worth buying the custom hand lapped barrel instead of another factory in my book.

Barrel cost me like $425 and it cost another $400 to have the smith chamber it and install it on my rifle.  He also bedded and blueprinted it as part of that cost.

I think he was referring to me. I've never had mine checked, but it shoots well as it is. I'm just the type to be always looking for more.

Here is the thread when I decided what I was going to get.  A lot of good input from those in the know.  http://opticstalk.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=11371&PN=1

Out of curiosity........how many flutes are in that barrel? Krieger puts 10 in the barrels like I was looking at. That seems like too many little flutes. It seems that about 8 bigger flutes would look better.

I know. I'd like to have one fluted like that, but would like the barrel maker to do it, so if it doesn't shoot good, it's not my doing. It would be nice if I could flute my factory barrel. This thing would look sweet with some spiral fluting on it.

It has 6 flutes on it.  They are pretty deep and pretty wide as well.
