I bought several new scopes in the last year and have had a couple of months now to actually see how they perform in the field.  Here's what I've found.

Burris Signature Safari 1.75-5 - This is a great scope.  Exceptionally clear.  I really like the Taper Plex reticle, it's the best I've seen for woods hunting situations.  Scope seems to be very durable; it's on a Marlin 1895G in 45-70 shooting handloads that produce nearly 3500 ft lbs of muzzle energy.  Only negative is the Burris matte finish.  It was significantly worn after just 3 hunts, where I tied a rope around the rifle to pull it up in the tree.

Kahles 2-7X36 - A disappointment.  Not very bright or crisp, comparatively, and it seemed more prone to fog the outside of the lens in cold weather.  Too much money for what you get.

Leupold 2.5-8X36 - Outstanding.  This is a superior scope in every way; brightness, clarity, durability.  No finish wear at all after much more use than the Burris above.

Burris FFII 3-9X40 - Great value, maybe the best scope for the money available.  Same finish problems as the signature above.  Oily reisdue around zoom and focus ring.

Burris 2-7X32 Handgun Scope - This is on a Ruger Super Redhawk .454.  Nice scope in the 2-5X range, but 6 or 7 X is useless.  Same issues with the Matte finish as above.  Very durable; several hundred rounds of .454 and no problems (by the way, .454 Casull recoil, even with a heavy handgun plus scope, is tremendous).
