I have never been the best with words but I will give it a shot.

I am no longer going to participate here at Optics Talk due to

some recent changes that have happened here that I dislike.

It has nothing to due with any of you great members, I just do

not have the passion I ounce had to continue here or in any other

forum. I would like to ask any of you fine gentlemen to please keep

in touch whenever possible,  I will be glad to hear from you.

Trinidad, if you care enough to post that you are leaving the forum, you should perhaps state clearly why you are doing that.

You will certainly be missed here.

It's my fault.  I asked him to please respect the site by changing his signature that read, "I like tight ass...." and I also asked him not to PM customers links to where they can buy something cheaper.

It was not meant in a condescending way.

I know the site is bigger than SWFA and it would not be such an excellent resource without its great members (which include SVD), however OpticsTalk is a reflection of SWFA.  We don't have any published rules because we haven't needed any, we don't moderate it because we haven't needed to (for the most part).

I only see things from my perspective and that might not be good.  OpticsTalk was created so like minded enthusiasts could share opinions, suggestions, reviews and experiences.  It all started from an idea I had (back in the day) when I had the time to answer every single e-mail SWFA received.  So many great stories and experiences were being shared with me and I hated that others could not learn as I was.  I would talk to people on the phone and think how they reminded me of so and so and I wish they could meet each other because I know they would really get along.

We don't overly promote products or SPAM members with promotions.  I only post the deals that are really good and when I do it, it is done in a FYI fashion.  I don't like commercials or being attacked by pushy salesmen and I know ya'll don't either.  In fact I can't count how many times members were not even aware that we own the forum.  Referring members to competitors on price alone really gets to me more on principal than it does in the wallet.

The unwritten rules are pretty simple and they all involve common sense and respect..........respect for the host and respect for other members.  OT is not the place for posting pictures of half naked girls or making lewd statements it is also not here to support our competitors.  I can tolerate just about anything else and have.

I am open to any suggestions on what I can do to keep you an active member.  I'd love to have you stay and my intention was not to run you off.

We also recently changed the silly ranking system and I noticed that it knocked you back a notch (unintentionally), but I don't think something petty like that would bother you.  Current rank is:

Optics Grasshopper 0-99

Optics Apprentice 100-299

Optics Journeyman 300-749

Optics Professional 750-999

Optics Master 1000-

Chris,

Thanks for taking the time to explain the situation.  I don't think your requests are unreasonable and I understand why you felt the need to step in.

It sounds like it's in SVD666's court now.  I hope he decides to come back.

The way I see it, this is a SWFA owned and run forum.  Promoting other retailer on this forum is, at best, impolite.

I think Chris' requests are reasonable.

Second that.  I discovered SWFA before I found OT.  You couldn't ask for a better company.  I've bought a LOT of stuff from them and have recommended them to quite a few others.  The only disappointment ever has been when something was out of stock.  I think Chris runs the OT like SWFA.  Please don't change anything.

Hello Koshkin

I did not post a retailer, I PM'ed somebody with a E-Bay auction. I do not do this often but ounce

in a while when I feel that a certain person can really benifit from this type of situation, I like to

help out. I admit that the "Borat" avatar and the, (I like tight ass....got a Leupold...it is tight):quote

that I had at the time is a little to much for alot of people here and I apologized to Chris for that.

I thought Chris did not want me around here because I had log on problems shortly afterward and still

do and I thought that he had demoted me in title because I saw other people with far less posts keep

thier title and mine had downgraded, this is minor and no big deal but in combination with everything

else I felt that somebody at SWFA wanted me to take a hike. I honestly am not motivated to

participate here any longer. To everybody that supported my thoughts since my arival here a little

under 8 months ago I give lots of love, to all the haters here who did not look past and beyond-I have

a vision of the future ROOTMANSLIM. Keep fine optics alive and never settle. Keep in touch and

live as FREE as you can for me.

Well, I do agree on the website problems.  I also often have trouble logging in.  It gives error here and there. Cleaning out the cache and the cookies tends to help.

I doubt that anyone is trying to get rid of you, Trinidad, but the choice is certainly yours to make.

Ok I really would hate to see you go, I log on here almost every night and early each morning trying to learn as much as I can about scopes and what works best . I know I am still alittle green around here, and I havent posted alot. But for what I have read and learn on here I trust the advice of three men and SV you are one of them.

Now heres my two cents worth. This site was made for fellow friends and all shooters to come and talk about the best price and the best scope for the shooter. I would hope if I needed some help on here I could come and ask for it without any one being woried about what they said. I could understand if he posted a tread saying shop at ebay, But he didnt he sent a PM to a friend and fellow shooter. I feel like if you start telling people they cant talk about other sites and deals, then this site wont be any better then a chat room at Yahoo

Also SWFA has a LARGE Samplelist ( WBTW) I still think those prices are out there in left field).....Anyway if you see or hear of a shooter looking at another deal, Try to work with them, I am sure if you cut them a deal. they will come back, they might even send some shooters your way. (Thats how I got here)

SV I hope you stay around, I look forward to reading all your post.

OK, I've thought about this thread all day.

I didn't want to just jump in earlier and say "something" because what I'm about to say I feel is important.

Like "The Captain" in Cool Hand Luke once said....

"What we have here...is a failure to communicate."

We don't really have a problem, we have a situation.

First up, SVD666:

Brother, I felt sick when you told me you were leaving this forum. I may not have seemed that way when you PMed me, but I still wasn't real sure what transpired.

I never saw the sig line or whatever it was that offended Mrs. Farris.

I so look forward to your commentary and your PASSION.

You are a real asset to this forum and you leaving would be a loss for all.

There's people that never log on to this forum, but read what you post, in addition to all the ones that do log on regularly, that are helped by your comments and advise.

Chris has extended his hand out to you, during the busiest time of year for him, explained his side of the deal, and asked that you not leave.

In my humble opinion, Chris Farris did what a good man does. He honored his Mother.

Chris's Mother read something here, she mentioned it to him and Chris addressed the issue with you in private. He didn't "put you on blast" in front of the forum.

You apologized. Done deal.

Two reasonable people, meeting in the middle would resolve this deal right now.

Chris has met you half way, my friend. The rest is up to you.

Concerning the optics titles. They are based on quanity, more than quality.

Mike McDonald was a "Optics Master" the day he logged on here on The OT.

Does the fact that he doesn't post as much as we'd like make him less knowledgeable?? A "Optics Grasshopper"?

I think not. Mike's forgotten more about optics than most folks here, including me, will ever know.

Trinidad, give a little bit on this one.

You know you won't find a better optics forum on the net than this one to hang out on........

Wherever you go in cyber space, remember, you'll always be part of The OT.

SVD, stick around. Guys like me are going to be optics grasshoppers for a long time and the rankings don't matter. They shouldn't be based on the number of posts. Besides, the regulars here know who the top dogs are without them.

Tahqua it was not because of the ranking, I was reading to much into several of things.

I understand where Chris is comming from and the type of forum he would like to have

and I can respect that and go by his rules. I am deeply touched by the recent E-Mails

and posts on this thread, by the time I got to Longbows post I even got watery eyed. I have

always been a very rebeleous person and not even my parents could ever tell me what to

do and I see now that I have been lacking a bit of respect towards SWFA. We are a tight

knit group with what I believe to be the finest people and I will continue to be a part of what

we have here. I will continue to be myself as much as I can but I will also keep SWFA

in mind. Thank you all and lets see if we can make this the best forum.

Thank you Phil, when you first loged on here I knew you were a "true pro" with a exellent product.

I had a chance to use your rings and mounts and I can honestly say after using all the top brands

your rings and bases offer a tremendous amount of quality and features for the price. I wish you

and your company all the luck in the world.
