Guys i am building a f-class rifle to shoot 600-1000 yards and i want an affordable but quality selectable power scope. I am Looking at nikon  monarch 8-32 and the bushnell 4200 8-32 and maybe even a Sightron S3.  Whats the better scope especially between the 4200 and Nikon Monarch. I looked through a 8-32 4200 a few weeks ago and i was impressed!!! Lee

The Nikon has much heaver cross hair. To me this is a disadvantage at 1000 yds and is more suited for hunting. Get the best glass over power. You will find it hard to see through the mirage and haze that a 20 + scope will show. You will be better served with a scope under 15X. The super snipers are designed for this regime of shooting.

I have no desire to own a super sniper scope, but thanks. The 4200 i looked through had really nice glass but there again it was regular cross hair reticule. I dont know what to do!! Lee

4200 is a very good scope. It would be better for your use than the Nikon. I have never had a Sightron to look at so I can not say anything about it other many here on the OT like them.

I had the 4200 6-24 and was not impressed with the glass at higher magnification.

I recently tested the S3 6-24 and really, really liked it.  For an f-class gun, you won't beat it for under $1,000 - and you'd need to jump to about $1,200-1,400 to get something that would make you see a difference.

Of the 3, I'd get the S3, hands down.

My review of it:

I'm using a 2.5X16 6500 with mildot. It works well IMHO.

Both Elite 4200 and Nikon are good scopes.  Unfortunately, both have very limited adjustment range which makes them, IMO, not very suitable for long range shooting.

Sightron S3 is a better choice in this case.

I recently got a SII big sky and was blown away by the clarity.  If an SIII is not in your budget, the Big Sky is the way to go.

Sightron SIII was redesigned last year and from what I hear from the guys at the club, there as good as the Euro scopes.
