hello all,new member here with a question.

i called swfa to get some info on a falcon optics scope. one of the questions was about the warranty and who do i return the scope to if it's defective(not that i think it's going to be). the person on the phone told me that if it's defective i would have to send it back to the manufacturer.

the problem,as i see it,is that the manufacturer is in the UK. i was then more specific and asked "you mean if there's a problem with it,i would have to send it to england?",to which he answered "yes".  he did say that if there's a problem right when i receive it,that i could return it to swfa but to me this also means it doesn't really have a "limited lifetime warranty" because the idea of having to send it to england doesn't seem practical.Whacko

does this seem correct to any of you?

it seems to me that if this is the way it is with falcon optics scopes, then they are a non-starter(totally dead) scope option here in the USA and they will never succeed.

have any of you with falcon scopes(or anyone that really knows) gotten a different answer or knows that the info i got over the phone is incorrect? what has been your experience?

...and before anyone says it,i've already been through the "buy once cry once" way, several times in fact. this is for secondary(and not particularly expensive) type rifle, not my main ones. i just though the falcon offered some decent glass and features for the price.

iirc, even the brands that are chinese made, you don't have to send them back to china if there's a problem.Loco

I'm not 100% sure about this but I think the same company that handles WOTAC handles Falcon claims.  To which i will say, buy something else.

you mean the infamous wonders optics?,..oh my my.

i actually called them(sightwonders) before i posted this thread and a couple more times now,..no one answers, not to mention all the bad things i've heard about them before.

IMHO,swfa should not be selling these(for shame),or at least clearly say no warranty and that your on your own if you buy.

They can't be held accountable for sevice after the fact.  They sell a product advertised to work.  If it does when you get it from them they've done all they are suppose to, deliver goods.  if a zeiss hensoldt broke after someone who bought it had an issue  they'd have to contact zeiss, not whomever they bought it from.  Your blame is not with SWFA here.

i have now contacted two other falcon optics dealers(not wonders optics) here in the USA and they have both told me the same thing, that if there is a problem down the road with the scope they are the ones i would deal with. if they have the same model in stock they simply send out another to me,if they don't,then they get it from the UK and then send it to me.

with respect and appreciation but also puzzlement, why can't swfa do the same thing?

That is a question you will have to take up with SWFA, I would give them a call.  Asking forum members to answer that type of question would just be hearsay.

i wasn't really referring to initial inspection but to problems down the road,..in any case......

i don't think it would be difficult to send a defective scope back to falcon optics, which is in the UK. thinking about it now,my real concern was that, while i have sent out different things to different places,i have never sent anything, including a scope,to the UK. my concern was if there is any difficulty in doing this or any issues with customs nowadays.

obviously,i would contact falcon optics first before sending anything and see what instructions they give me but i asked elsewhere and been given the answer that sending something to england is not that big a deal, that he has used USPS several times to send to england with no problems. depending on what FO tells me,i think more than likely this would come out of my pocket, which i think is somewhere around $30-$50 or thereabout. hopefully, they would pay the shipping back but i don't know.

it's also interesting to note that while FO gives a "limited lifetime warranty",they also specifically state that,"this is legally restricted to 10 years under europen law",which is another question i have,..does this "european law" apply to someone in the USA?

perhaps several e-mails to FO full of questions is in order.

FO warranty used to be 5 years, now it is lifetime which is logical if they want to compete in todays market(not to mention that if they don't have faith in their product, why should anybody else),..they offer decent glass(jap) with great features(mil/mil,etc.,etc.) and value(than say sightmark or others which some may cost more but are actually lesser glass and more likely to break or be defective but they have a solid warranty return here in the USA),..that's all good,..but a way of returning a defective scope back to someone HERE in the USA is necessary, someone who does NOT have a questionable reputation or difficult to reach, someone you can return it to even if you bought it from swfa.

there was a time when falcon was the only game in town if you wanted high power, decent glass in FFP,great features and at mid price,..now they need to "step up" the game. there's a big difference between buying with confidence and buying with some reservations. both their 4-14x44FFP and 1.5-5x30IR seem like good glass with great features and value without sourcing parts from the bottom-of-the-barrel lowest bidder in china(like so many others that "seem" to offer value but really don't).
