I just bought one of those fake Leupold Mark 4 3.5-10x40 scopes that I found for under $70, shipped. I got it  I wanted a side focus scope for a display. Now I'm not saying this scope is as good as a $1200 Leupold -- or a $300 for that matter -- but it is pretty darn well-made for a fake scope. Actually reminds me a little of the Hawke airmax scopes.

I have yet to mount it on anything and actually try shooting with it, but anyone have experience with these that you might share? I'm wondering if they hold up, fall apart, etc...

I actually got one a few years ago and screwed it onto my 300WM. Worked very well until last Oct. when the elevation adjustment went for a loop. If a person had one of these and didnt go up and down very much it may last who knows how long. Guts obviously wear out very quickly. Got it off that auction site for $60.00 to the door. Looking into a Millett now.

I really like the Millett scopes but I can't use them -- not springer recoil rated, and according to Bushnell they should not be used with spring rifles. I had one for a bit and thought it was pretty awesome, but traded it through Bushnell for a Trophy 6-18x42...which is springer rated...

Springer recoil? Is that semi auto oscillating barrrel type? They advertize the Millet as being on bolt action 50's.

Springer recoil is bidirectional (perhaps rotational as well). The spring starts and stops abruptly, so it is back and forward. I don't shoot powder-burners -- just air rifles. The air rifles may not be as powerful for the most part, but they can shake a scope to death probably more easily than even a hefty powder-burner, which should be recoiling one way.

Springers (all of them) are notorious scope killers. Semi Autos can be also. Especially those with heavy bolts. It is that the reticle isn't secured with that type of (multi directional) recoil in mind.

I wouldn't be surprised if that that scope is made in the same factory that Leupold buys there lenses from.

Bought a Chinese scope at a gun show up here once. It was a Futong. Clamped it onto my 300WM and 3rd shot it turned into a kalidascope. The fellow in Vancouver sent my money back right away I'll give him that.

I wonder why Leupold doesn't put a MADE IN USA on their scopes anymore?

Probably because they get their glass from Japan. Other than that I believe that all of their gold ring scopes are

"All Leupold Golden Ring® Riflescopes are designed, machined, assembled, and tested in Leupold’s state of the art manufacturing facility in Beaverton, Oregon, USA."

copied from their website.
