I'm in the market for an Extended Eye Relief Scope, but I don't know too much about them. They appear to be scopes that you view from 6 or 8 inches away. You get the scope benefit, but not at the expense of your periphreal vision. Plus, my rifle doesn't lend itself to a convienient 'up close' scope mount. I'm an older guy who grew up on traditional scopes that you view from 1-1.5" inches away, so these are new to me.

I'd like to hear from anyone who has a scope like this, on the pros and cons, as well as your opinion on 4x24 vs 2x20. Keep in mind my rifle's no sniper; medium range is where I'm at. Also, if you can, compare these scopes to red dot sights.

What caliber are you shooting?  What is the intended use?

You get the benefit of more eye relief for harder kicking rifles, and maybe it doesn't ruin as much peripheral vision, although that hasn't been an issue for me.  The downside is that the fov is less.  I have a 2.5 scout scope I use on my 45/70 at times.  I am thinking of upgrading it to the new Leupold 1.5-5x33 scout scope.

I'm hoping to mate the scope with an Amega mount on my Mini-14/.223. It's reall hard to mount a scope on in the first place (it's pre 180- and doesn't have the machined in mounts). I've had the mounts that screw to the side of the rifle, above the breech, and I just don't like the feel of it at all. Intended use target/varmit or the occasional coyote.

I would take a look at the new Leupold 1.5-5. Should be a good scout setup for the mini 14.
