I would not second guess buying any of these scopes and I put them in order of which ones I would choose first to last.

This particular Leica is what I plan to take on my elk hunt on top of my 6.5/284 in September. One of the best if not the best scopes in the world. I know it is a little out of your price range but its worth the extra $150.

Swaro or Zeiss Victory, you can buy more magnification, but you can't buy better glass (and better glass wins every time.)
Freedom is something you take.
Respect is something you earn.
Equality is something you whine about not being given.

The Leica glass is on par with the Swaro and Zeiss IMO.

I might need to try one, my Leica binos have been well used and never disappointed me (though they are a bit on the heavy side.)

When you say a canyon country I see a lot of climbing and maybe some getting bumped around. With this in mind you may want to keep to the slimmer objectives 40 - 42. I don't see as much need for very low light. The smaller scope will lessen the chances of getting knocked and bumped, plus be a lot lighter. IMO If you want a Ballistic reticle I have a Zeiss Z600 3-9X40 that I like but I don't expect to shoot over 500 yds. You may like the Z800 or the Z1000 for your situation. The Leupold VX3 4.5-14x40 may be a good choice also.
Folks ain't got a sense of humor no more. They don't laugh they just get sore.

Need to follow the rules. Just hard to determine which set of rules to follow
Now the rules have changed again.
