I bought a Sandpiper a few months ago and I really like it. For some dumb reason I brought home an Excursion yesterday and did a side by side comparison of them today. I set a rifle target 100 yards away and set the Excursion on the cheap tripod it came with. I put the Sandpiper on my Bogen Wilderness and it is rock steady. Both scopes have a view thru case plus the Bushnell had a Snug-Rug type case which is nice.
The image seemed a bit brighter with the 65 mm Sandpiper over the 60mm Bushnell. The Excursion has a larger FoV at 15x but I didn't notice any real advantage as the power increased. I was amazed that at 45x, I could see the 3/16" letters on the target equally well with both scopes. At the entire outside edge of the entire circle, the Bushnell was a tad blurry (abberation I think), the Stokes was only a bit blurry on the outside on the right edge - left side was clear.
Albeit a tiny bit heavier the Bushnell is more compact with it's FLP design and would tote better I think. The Bushnell has a bit more eye relief but I took my progressive lens glasses off while viewing. I don't think eyeglasses are as much an issue as they are being damn progressive lenses. I just odered some single perscription lenses for my shooting glasses so I hope this solves some of my focusing issues. I usually pop my glasses off when using my binocs anyway.
All in all, the Bushnell is a really nice scope but this dang Sandpiper is still one heck of a bargain. I'm going to have to do a dusk/dawn comparison to see if the larger Sandpiper objective is more noticleable in brightness.

Thanks for the comparison. I've been going back and forth over which of these to try. -Al

That is, I think, the understatement of the year. Big Grin
