As a newbie I wonder if anyone has any experience with the EOTech 510 or 511 on a .44 mag pistol.  I have a T/C Contender and have ragged two of the cheaper holographic scopes.  Yes, I should have known better but, experience is the best teacher.  Now I'm ready to listen.  I've e-mailed EOTech directly and have gotten no response.  I'd appreciate any help or advice you can give me.  Thanks.

Yes they will work, remember that mount needs a weaver or picatiny mt.

Thank you--I've got a weaver mount on it now.  I'm just concerned with the scope holding up under the recoil.

As a rule handguns are worse on scopes than rifles, so far the one I've got on an AK has held up well. The T/Cs I used in IMSHA in 7/30 waters, 44 mag were a lot harder on the shooter than the sites however,

I bought the EOTech 512 with the AA batteries and am thrilled with it.  I put it on a TC Contender G2 .44 Mag and have fired 50+ shells without a hiccup.  Zeroed at 25 yards off a sandbag and can consistently put shots in a 4" circle at 100 yards using factory Federal American Eagle 240 grain JHP.  I will use this for deer this fall and will not as a rule shoot beyond 75 yards.  This is a fantastic scope.  I am left eye dominate and shoot right handed.  For the first time in my life I can shoot with both eyes wide open and be very comfortable that I can hit what I am aiming at.  I usually had to squint or shut my left eye which left a lot to be desired.  I have never been able to train myself to shoot left-handed although that would have been optimal. Just stubborn I guess.  In any case--I love this scope.  I plan on using it on my shotgun, muzzleloader, and .243 barrel as well.  There are very few shots longer than 75 yards in the woods I hunt.  This scope is great for rapid target acquisition and accuracy.  I figgured if out troops are using it in Iraq, then it should be a great scope for the type hunting I do.  Three other guys in my hunt club are considering the EO as well.  So far, so good.  I'll let you know more this fall.  Thanks for your responses and your honesty.   Your replys helped me make the decision to buy.  thanks again.

I'm interested in the EOTech for my Contender, also. What length barrel do you have, BoomBoom?

I have a 12" barrel from TC.  Nothing special, just their stock barrel that had iron sights that  took off and repalced with the EO.  I am 59 and not as steady as I used to be.  I use sandbags and can still shoot 5" groups at 100 yards.  I'm tickeled to death with the EO.  I am going to switch it to my TC 50 cal Muzzle loader this fall also.

By the way I am only shooting factory ammo.  I will be hand loading later and that may help the groupings.  Anyone have any suggestions on loads for the .44 mag.

I use 13.5 grains of Blue Dot under a 240gr of both soft and hollow point. It goes right through deer with either bullet. I have also tried 110 and 4227 but was not happy with the accuracy.

I've used the EO on both my 44 mag Contender and on my Encore 50 cal black powder for deer.  One shot each weapon, one kill each weapon.  I'm sold on the EO.  I've fired over 600 rounds with the 44 mag and the zero stayed perfect through it all.  We are handloading and trying all sorts of combinations of light loads from 14 grains up to 22.8 grains of 2400 all with 240 Hornady XTPs.  The scope performed flawlessly.  Target aquisition is very quick and I have all the confidence in the world that it hits where the dot is.  The best thing is that the dot does not have to be centered on the window area.  It hits where the dot is!  Great scope.  Thanks again, guys, for your support.

I have a Ruger 44 carbine and would like to mount one on it.  Problem is the 2 piece mounts are to far apart.  Unless I get it drilled and tapped.

Looking for a solution if anyone has any ideas.

thanks

I have a Bushnell Holosight 1st generation mounted on a Desert Eagle 50AE and have had no issues with it in 6 years. Look to me to be the same design, dont see why it wont hold up for you.

I have the EO Tech 512 mounted on a Ruger 44 Cabine rifle.  WOW! what a brush gun.  Fast to get on target, low recoil, fast follow up shot.  I know this doesnt help you on the pistol , but had to brag on the holo site.

Have you handgunners ever used the new Aimpoint Micro-Dots yet?
This seems like it would be ideal for a handgun optic.

That is an interesting suggestion. I used an older Aimpoint and wasn't very pleased. The weight of that optic is very low and the 4 moa isn't to big for the ranges of most hunting handguns. Considering the price and who makes it I think that is a intriguing idea.
