Are the lowest settings on EOTech holosights low enough for the last few moments of hunting light?

I find I get best accuracy with any illuminated reticle, red dot, etc. if I turn it down far enough to see well around and/or through the dot. One way to make sure a dot can do so, is to get models that have night vision settings. Thing is I don't use NV equipment. I just have blurry vision and hunt at or in the dark.

Anyone used the non-NV EOTech models for precise shooting in very low light?

Out of curiosity: if you are after low light performance, why are you looking at an EOTech?  It gives you now advantage over your naked eye.

Some sort of a quality magnified scope would likely be a better option.

Oh, the regular EOTech was a bit too bright for me in very low light.

This is more for amusement than a serious purpose. I already have the serious stuff set up. The reason I'm putting this rig together is I have an extra barrel lying around.

If having the very low intensity settings could be of some use, if only rarely, then I'll go for the NV model. Otherwise, I won't bother. It sounds like I should get the NV model.

Thanks.

It's been some years since I have experiemnted with the EOTech, but honestly, if I were looking for a holographic sight, I would be leaning toward Vortex UH-1.

I can see how it works in ultra low light when I get home in a couple of days.  I like the design more than the EOTech.

I think you would be better served with a Trijicon either a 1-4 or 1-6 Accupoint or a compact ACOG both have clear glass where red dot sights and holographic sights have lens coatings that are not as bright as a traditional clear glass optic like a 2-7 Redfield or other common hunting scope where the Trijicon products are bright clear glass with illumination that is tritium and fiber optic based.

That has nothing to do with coatings.

It is just a matter of a collecting aperture.

Ilya when I look at the front of my aimpoints they appear red and mirrored.  Is that not a coating applied to the glass?  Can you explain what a collecting aperture is?   When I look through them toward the target in low light they appear darker than a traditional optic, almost as if looking through sunglasses.  You know the technical aspects way better than I do, but in actual use if I look through one and cant make out the target in low light but can make out the target in the same low light with a different optic, it makes sense to me to use the one that allows me to see the target.  I have seen people close the front lens cover of an aimpoint and engage targets with both eyes open and have accurate hits but I would rather see through the optic.

The glass has a coating that reflects red light in a very narrow band.  Everything else is transmitted.  That's how you see that red dot: it is reflected off the curved surface of the optical element.

A reflex or holographic sight is a non-focusing sight, so you are looking through it like you would through a window.

The aperture that controls how much light gets into your eye is your eye pupil.

With a proper focusing sight (let's use my favourtite tweener for today Razor HD LH 1.5-8x32).

When you are looking through it, the aperture that controls how much light gets into the scope is the objective lens, or some portion of it on lower magnifications.

Effectively, when the scope has non unity magnification, you are using a larger aperture that the scope "condenses" into a smaller exit pupil that is aligned with your eye.  The image will give you more detail that way and better low light performance.

Had a chance to look at the Vortex "Huey". The reticle appears fuzzier to me that the Eotech. Which is fine because I am prejudiced against their rubber button covers anyhow.

The Eotech I see pixels, but they're not fuzzy. For some reason it is difficult to find an optics counter having an NV model with working batteries.

I guess I'll add that different electronic sights having different colors in the lenses does affect how well you can see game in failing light.

Mine is indeed pixilated, as are all holos I've seen/used.  I like the center dot and the triangle at the bottom is useful.

And the warranty is what sold me.  Happy so far with my UH-1.

Have you seen this review of the Vortex Huey?
