Hello all.  This is my first post to the sight.  I have been reading opticstalk for about a year to get great info.  Anyway, title says it all.  My budget is about $600 for 8x40 binocs and have narrowed it down to these 3.  I am leaning toward the Leupold GRs with the rebate of $100 which puts them at $599 but am concerned about the weight.  If the other two are equal in optical quality, I may save some $$ and go that route.  Unfortunately, I live in small town and cannot compare them on my own.  Also, what are the warranties on the Elites and Monarchs?  I already know the GR's warranty.  Thanks in advance for any replies.

Among those 3, I would get the Gold Ring, no question.

Thanks for the replies guys.  JGRaider, do you use yours as hunting binocs?  If so, did the weight bother you?  Are there straps that are better than others to help with the weight if that is a problem?  Sorry for the ignorance.  This will be my first set of "good glass" binocs and trying to get it right the first time.  I have been using decent scopes and bincos the last four years since I began hunitng at age 34 and have decided to sell a couple of rifles to finance some better optics.  By the way, I have 4 rifles and am going to sell 2.  I have a Leupold VX-III on one and love it, but I got a gloss finish for a ruger no.-1.  Would love to keep it and put it on my Sako 85 stainless but don't think it would look right.  Does SWFA take trades?  How much do you think I could get for it if I sold it on my own?  It is in 98% condition as if was on a safe queen.  Thanks.

PTS1, I used them several times guiding aoudad hunters in West Texas, since I got them after deer season was over.  I'm one of those guys who actually thinks the heavier weight is an advantage in holding them steadier than lightweight binos.   When I'm seriously glassing, I'm always sitting down anyway, resting my elbows on my knees or often times on my homemade shooting sticks.  You can glass like that for a long, long time.  I consider "glassing" meaning longer periods of time, while standing up I call that "looking".  They come with a Leupold bino harness and a neck strap., both very high quality.  I've been using bino harnesses for years now and I don't even notice the weight anymore, and I carried Leica Trinovid's for years.  Good questions, glad to help.

JGRaider, thanks for the info.  I am going to go ahead and get them.  What part of Texas are you from.  I am in Del Rio.  I would attach a pic of the last aoudad I took but can't seem to figure out how to.  He was 31 inches.

The forum software is configured such that you cannot edit posts or post pics until you have at least 50 posts.  If you want, I'll be happy to post your auodad pic for you.  Send me a PM for details.  A 31" auodad is very nice!
