will this scope be good for me to punch paper from a bench rest from 100 to 600 yards?  I want more magnification than i currently have with the vx ii 3-9x40 that i've got now.  the gun is a thompson center icon .308 and I don't hunt so the low end magnification isn't a concern for me.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Josh

I've shot benchrest with that scope but with a target dot.  It is used by others I shoot with as well.  The older Bausch & Lomb 4000's are coveted by the rimfire competitors at my club.  It's got very precise adjustments, good optics, and it's very durable IME.  Great prairie dog scopes if you're into that.  I don't know about the mil-dot.  I prefer fine reticles for what I do.

For paper punching I'd avoid the Mil-Dot and get as fine a cross hair as I could get.
