I want an Elite 4200 but which one should I get? I will probably have little use for any magnification over six power on the scope I want to at least have the best low light performance I can up to that power setting. The Elite is long and heavy enough compared to most other scopes in the same power range. Will the 1.5-6x36 be just as bright and clear as the 2.5-10 x 40 when both are set at six power? If so I would just assume get the 1.5-6 x 36 for the lighter weight and shorter length and low mounting advantage.

You have not stated what you will be using the rifle/scope combo yet for, however, if most of your shooting will be up close and personal than the 1.5-6 should work fine. I happen to have a preference for the 2.5-10x40 because it serves all my hunting situations, near or far. It is upto you weather you think that the extra power will ever come in handy. As far as the brightness factor is concerned the 2.5-10 at 6X will be brighter as far as exit pupil is concerned.

Get the 2.5x10 ....The 1.5x6 is just about the same size,, and certainly the longest scope of it's magnification  range I've owned..

By the way-- a great choice- super value in it's price range
