Many thanks guys, I have learned a lot reading these posts over the last few months. I will put one of these scopes on a 270 in the next few weeks. Mainly for deer hunting, but also may shoot some coyotes on my place. Most shots will be below 350 yards. I know I don't need the extra magnification to shoot deer at 300-350 yards. But it is helpful in NOT shooting spikes when hunting does. Any thoughts regarding this would be of help. Also why no money difference between the two?                                                           Thanks, John    & nbsp;         & nbsp;         & nbsp;         & nbsp;         & nbsp;         & nbsp;

I would go 2.5-10 power for hunting at the ranges you stated. I would assume it has a better field of view too.

I also don't like to use my scope to spot game. I recommend a good pair of binos too.

Welcome to OT.

The 2.5-10x40 would be a better choice for hunting big game. This scope would be a good fit for your .270

Thanks folks, I have hunted for the last twenty-five years with a Redfield 2X7 and wanted to go up in magnification a good bit. Where I hunt in Mississippi its four points or larger. I have had as many as six spikes in with ten to twelve does at 200 plus yards. It can be difficult to pick out a doe, put down the binos and get set to shoot while they are feeding along. Bucks big enough to shoot(16 inch spread & Eight points or better where I hunt) are no problem, even with the old Redfield. Thats why I was looking at the 4X16.         Thanks, John

Understood.

My hunting venue here in NC is much the same. Hunting thickets like I do, doesn't allow a lot of time to size 'em up. That's why a good field of view is critical for me.

I hunted this year using a Aimpoint red dot scope. I didn't shoot anything with it, but I think I like it. All shots are well within 100 yards, most being 50-60 yards.

I think you will be well served with a 2.5-10 power scope.

I like the 4-16 for these reasons.

You gain an adjustable objective.

It coms with a sun shade (not available for the 2.5-10)

The only thing the 2.5-10 has that the 4-16 does not is 2.5x, 3x.

The 4-16 has 11x, 12x, 13x and 14x....and for what you are doing these powers are much more handy than 2.5x and 3x.

I have no idea why they are the same price, maybe Bushnell screwed up on the price list.   The new price list that goes into affect July has them $20. apart.

Since the scopes are the same price why not go with the one that will offer most? Would be silly to get the 2.5-10 at 398.00 when you can get a 4-16 at the same price. How often do you use your 2-7 redfield on 2-4 power? If never or hardly ever I would jump all over the 4-16.
