I am new here and would like some insight. I have a FN-FAL with the DS Arms dust cover/scope mount and a 4-12x50 Bushnell Walmart special, (all I could afford at the time). I had to use Burris rings with a total of 20 moa inserts just to get the rifle to the center of the paper at 100 yds!!! Being a machinist I even dialed in the chamber and muzzle flat and the checked it against the scope rail being parallel to the bore and the rail was within .0003 in 6 in. Is .0003 enough to to cause that much correction with the rings or is it the cheap scope as I had to replace it 2 times before this one. The rifle will now shoot a 5 shot group under 1.5 in. at 100 yds.
Also, is there anything out there besides Burris that will convert a Ruger M77 MKII to Weaver or would I be better off just having a gunsmith drilling and tapping the receiver and use gunsmith bases? I am a machinist but am definately not a gunsmith!!! |

??? Why, would you want to use a Weaver base, when you have a Ruger? I am a crude hacker in the machine shop. Ruger rings chucked in the vertical mill, and cut for Weaver slots, seems better than drilling and tappin' the receiver. Would it not be less hassel and less money, just to use Ruger rings? |

I think you misunderstood what I am trying to do. I'm trying to get the Ruger rifle, which has the integral Ruger scope mount cuts in the receiver, setup so I can easily switch from a hunting scope to a target scope with quick detachable rings and have them return to zero fairly accurately and from what I'm hearing from local gun shops is that the Ruger rings don't return to zero as good as say Leupold. Another problem is that Ruger also has either the front mounting or the back one, I forget which, is lower than the other one is - this is why I was thinking of using the Leupold gunsmith bases (Weaver type base) and have a gunsmith do the work and then both mounting points would be even and then I can use pretty much any brand of rings I want because the other brands don't have 1 ring that is shorter than the other like Ruger.
