This last year I was hunting at an altitude of 8,000 to 10,000 feet. As I opened my toothpaste the first morning and had it squirt out because it had become pressurized, it ocurred to me that my scope would also become pressurized since it is sealed. Does high altitude have any negative effects on a scope, or does the nitrogen purging of higher quality scopes address this issue.

I have never had a scope pressure problem at least to 12,000 ft. that I've hunted, but there is quite a bit of difference in the UV factor at higher altitudes which makes the image seen "blue". Nikons in particular show this. This effect of course is due to the LTF (linear transfer function-I can see Chris rolling his eyes) differences between the optimal transmission frequences used in the glass which is different for each brand. |
