I'm looking at several scopes that have ~40-50 MOA adjustment available and I want to shoot out to 800-1000yrds/meters with a .308. |

Try this buy the right scope - MUST HAVE A 30mm tube. A .308 rifle sighted to ZERO at 600 yds will drop 230 inches at 1000 yds or 23MOA. Note Leupold scopes made to shoot LONG RANGE are disignated LONG RANGE for example the 4.5-14 Mark 4 and VX-III have 100MOA windage and elevation adjustment if you buy the 30mm tube Long Range version. With standard rings and bases most scopes should get you out 600 + yds but there is a huge difference after that. The 10x42 Super Sniper is a very popular scope at a reasonable price with 30mm tube for more internal adjustment.
Once you have a scope that will work get some Badger rings and the plus 20 MOA or plus 30 MOA base.
