Whats the benefit of using Dual Dovetail bases over the standard bases?  I assume it is stronger, but you will not have any windage adjusment.  How important is the windage adjustment?

I have weaver style mounts on 2 rifles (warne) and they don't have any windage adjustments.  I have never had a problem with these before.  But to be honest, I had no clue what I was doing when I mounted these and I can't remember how much I had to turn the windage on the scope when I bore sighted.

Please give me your opinions on this.  I am ready to pull the trigger on a new scope, just can't decide on what type of bases.  By the way, they will be going on a .270 A-bolt.  The scope I am planning on getting is 40mm.

Thanks alot.

I have several dual dovetail bases on Weatherbys and a Browning Ultramag. They are very secure and rugged. I also have some rifles with  the windage adjustment of the standard base, but on 308's and an 30-06. In actuality, the windage screws ( with the help of loctite) have never become  loose, but on the bigger kickers I didn't want to take the chance ( plus I think it's a cleaner look without the windage screws  ) . I have yet to have any windage adjustment issues from scopes mounted on the dual dovetail bases, as each scope has had plenty of internal range to get to zero.

Also on these type of bases, gotta have alignment rods to make sure the rings are true. Keep the tops with the bottom halves they came with . Plus, not a bad idea to lap the rings to remove any machining burrs .

I also use Weavers and dual dovetail mounts. I have never had scope adjusting problems with either.
The dual dovetails look better IMO and are very strong. I like them better than the standard windage adjustable types. It doesn't matter much on the majority of guns but the stud in base of the dual dovetail is stronger.

Thanks for the replies.
I have never had any windage issues either so I guess I'll either get the dual dovetails or another set of Warnes.
I can't wait to get this rifle set up.  Hope it turns out to be a shooter!
