Hi,
It is a 4x24 scope with rubber eyepiece and cover; has a Dragunov reticle that I'm told is calibrated for .308. My question is simple.....knowing that they made the same scope in .223, how do I know I have the .308 version?

Haven't shot with it yet but really like it all in all. Would be a shame it isn't correct.

I've sent DSA and email and I suppose I will send one to Valdada as well but in the meantime, hoping for info from the group.
Cheers, John

I have the .223 version of that scope.  IIRC the .308 model had numbers 1-10 on the elevation dial and the .223 had 1-8.  How many does yours have?

I don't beleive the reticle is calibrated for anything, just the turrets

BTW.....how do you like the scope and how accurate is the reticle in determining range? Thanks again!

It has been a great scope.  Mine has been on an AR for 12,000ish rounds.  It has been on many hunting trips, fourwheeling trips 10 or so rifle classes and it has always been reliable.  It has been bumped, dropped, banged, killed many many rabbits, a bunch of yotes and rock chucks etc and just keeps working.  Glass is quite good.  Illumination sucks, to bright even at the lowest setting, but I seldom use it.

My reticle is different.  It is the CQB reticle like on the Valdada site.  http://www.valdada.com/scopes/tactical-scopes/4x24-m2-30mm-tactical-scope-illuminated-cqb

Can't say that I have ever used it for ranging.  I always had a range finder.  The BDC for me has worked close out to 4 to 500 yards.  Beyond that I have not shot it a lot, but it seems to be off more and more the father I go.  But that makes sense since it is calibrated for a 20" barrel at 3200 fps and my 16" barrel is not that fast.

Honestly it have been one of the best scope I have ever bought.  It has just done what it is suppose to do and has done it well.

The reticle actually moves from the center of the scope when you make adjustments.  It has a different kind of erector setup in it.  So that part is kind of weird.  When you take a long shot with a big wind correction it is quite off centered.

I was not able to use the rubber eye cover thing.  I also cut off all the extra metal on the eye piece side so it was close to the glass since the eye relief is so short.  I thought it was stupid to have that much metal hanging off the end.  It made it much more usable for me.

It is definitely not the prettiest scope and is old tech, but mine has worked well for me.  Would I pick an ACOG or accupoint, SWFA 1-4x over it.  Yes I have all of those and they are better, but it has been a great scope for me and it will stay on that AR for ever.

That is a white gun!

It needs some rattle-can action.

And how is the front rail attached to old A2 handguards?

Thanks for the insight and experience report. Great idea to cut some metal off of the end too!

Actually, I did get a Trijicon ACOG for the SCAR 17 but I regret to say I can barely read the numbers on it ;)...otherwise, it's excellent. For what I paid for the Valdada, I doubt I'd sell it, it's too good a value.

All this to say that I will take them (and the 6-24 vortex I just bought for my 7mm mag) and head to the range for some fun. I know it's like comparing apples to sailboats but still, it should be a blast.

The flash makes it look a bit"whiter" than it is.  It is duracoat desert tan IIRC.  I chose a light color as I took most of my classes in the desert heat, sometimes 90 to 100 degrees and the lighter color kept the gun cooler in my hands.  Black got quite hot during those days.  I had an IOR 3-18x on my .308 and it got so hot sitting in the sun, that a bunch of lubrication/grease from the inside of the scope started leaking/dripping down on the glass.

It came with nuts that had large flanges on them, so they reached larger than the holes in the heat shield and held that way.

That is my biggest gripe for the ACOG as well.  You need good eye sight to see them.  Consider the 1-4x accupoint or the SWFA SS 1-4x.  You can SEE those reticles well.

I think I paid under $300 when I bought that IOR.  I bet is has been 8 or so years ago.

I had a 5-20 Accupoint, sold it because it was too much scope and wasn't keen in the reticle. I think what I will end up doing is getting a 3-9 Accupoint and a small offset RMR. Too many options really and I'm gonna wait to see what happens with this. Thinking about getting a second SCAR or a FNAR so maybe one of each. Using an Eotech and an Aimpoint on the AR15's.
Yes, I paid $325 about 3 months ago and again, I think it's a steal.....I also like the fact I don't have to worry about damaging it or that I can paint it and not cry!
